When I was in school and university I went barefoot only occasionally in summer. It was a thing for hot summer days (meanwhile my children taught me about the joys of spring and autumn ... unlike them I'm still not convinced to go barefoot on ice though!)
For my children, primary school had a rule: Street shoes had to be changed for indoor slippers at the entrance. Though it soon turned out that as 'indoor slippers' socks or bare feet were totally acceptable and fortunately my children were also let in wearing their 'street feet' (wiped sufficiently clean). In summer they weren't the only ones barefoot in class.
Now they are all in secondary school. As it seems there are no complaints about them going barefoot. They got a few surprised looks when it got colder but since they are all in wonderful health people get used to even that!
