Subject: Development of walking

One of the greatest joys of raising a three year old is seeing her progress, it looks like Rita learns new things every day. I took the decision of not getting her used to shoes, so her feet could develop and grow naturally. And she never wanted to wear anything on her feet. Her first steps were clumsy, wobbly, like any baby's, though it was clear she used her toes to balance and the sense of her touch to keep upright. And now her chubby little baby feet grow, developing a bit of an arch, the skin gets tougher where it touches the ground, smooth leather shining in the sunlight or getting dark gray from the city dust in contrast to her pale arches. Her walk is confident, even elegant as she's found a springy step on her forefoot, often skipping and running around full of energy. It seems like in the way she moves she's ahead of her age group in development, so it looks like keeping her barefoot everywhere was a great decision and I can only recommend the same to other parents.
Often I'm barefoot as well when I'm outside in the park and at the playground with her. When in town for shopping I'll wear minimal shoes or sandals though as I accompany my barefoot daughter.
