That reminds me of a scene when we were visiting a big city on a hot and dry day and riding in the underground metro with our four children aged 6 to 12. The youngest son saw his siblings's feet and looked at his own, surprised how black his soles got everywhere they were touching the ground. That was followed by all four comparing who had the blackest feet, there was certainly much fun and giggles ... and two more hours to proudly show off their soles to anyone interested in the city. Back home I helped scrub the feet of my two youngest clean while the older children did it themselves. On that day my wife and me wore sandals while our children were happy to have just a layer of dirt between their naked soles and the rough pavement.
