A little update: At just two and a third years of age, Rita is making great progress in walking, running, climbing, talking and a lot of other things. Since I never got her used to shoes I don't know her shoe size and we don't care but it's important that her feet are tougher than those of other children of her age (I love rubbing her soles and she really enjoys it!). She's going barefoot everywhere, wearing a cute little summer dress, and has wonderful endurance, whether it's in the city or in the countryside. For anyone with small children I can only recommend to go this way, keep your kids active and don't get them used to shoes. Coldness is of course no concern now but we'll try to keep her barefoot as long as she likes which might be well into the winter. I'm occasionally wearing sandals when accompanying her but as young as she is, she really inspired me to try going barefoot in a lot of different conditions.
