And you are indeed lucky. Joe and Carol might not be, the UK is falling into the grip of 'Safety Culture' and once it's decided that bare feet are 'Unsafe' bad things could occur.

Similarly I'd seen a news item about a school in the US state of Texas where they decided to ban black coloured clothing, allegedly because it was a sign of mental illness/self harm. We live in an increasingly risk adverse world and we are the poorer for it.
