I reprinted the JPEG of the top of the card 'life size' and played around with the 575 board.

The good news is that the DiiMo board seems orientated the only way in which it could possibly fit on the 575 board.

The bad news, as Chris also concluded, is that use of the PDS slot would be out. Even putting the PDS card higher with a short riser could be problematic, because of heat issues - the PDS card would sandwich the cache card between it and the logic board.

As Chris concludes, not worth $99, but worth looking out for on eBay.

From the lettering on the PCB, "(c)1994 DiiMo Technologies Inc' it would seem that the board was originally made by a different company, and MiroMac took them, or at least the board, over.

In Scott Barber's article, he wrote,
"At the time I tested the Diimo 040 card (sigh), which was very short lived
(I can almost remember the technician's name that sent me the card) at
micromac, they had made two versions---one was the above cache card, the
other had the processor, and they called it a Diimo. Now, I know---there's
only a Diimo 030 on their page now...but the kit either had the processor or
didn't."

From his earlier description of the Quad-doubler, I think that the DiiMo _with_ CPU contained a CPU with internal construction to give a 4x CPU speed, rather than the usual 2X, so a CPU in a socket that would normally run at 20/40 would run at 40/80.

'040 DiiMos _without_ a special CPU are effectively slot-less cache cards, i.e. what we're looking at now.

But it's anyone's guess how long the 040 DiiMos were around for. One factor may have been that once CPU speeds reached 25/50 from 20/40, it became impossible to get CPUs that could be 'doubled' to run at 50/100, so the main application of the DiiMo board became either impossible, or impossibly expensive.

But, this _is_ the 'slot-less' cache that we're looking for.

Stuart
