I picked up a quiet Quantum/Apple Fireball 4 GB drive on Ebay a while back. I have not had it long; maybe 6 months. It has been running in Mystic just fine. I can not hear it at all. I can't remember what I paid, but it was under $40.00

I am sure the Barracuda is a faster drive, but the SCSI backbone of the Mystic can only go so fast. I am not sure if you will see a speed hit by moving to a slower Fireball drive. I kind of think not, but experts here can probably tell you better.
