Most things are possible, but may not be practicable!

In the case of the b/w compact Macs, an area of normal memory is reserved for the display, and this is limited by the architecture of the machine.

Simple CRT replacement is not possible.

Adding a video card (more easily to SEs and SE/30s, but possible with some Classics) allows external 640 x 480 displays.

Adding the expensive ($300+ s/h) Xceed Greyscale adaptor to an Xceed video card in an SE/30 allows internal grey-scale 512 x 3xx.

I'm currently working on an internal grey-scale 640 x 480 display for an SE/30, and people in Japan have acheived this by using a 475 logic board in a Classic.

See this recent eBay.de sale for a flavour of what they do - decidely non-trivial:

best wishes,

Stuart.
