Stuart:
Successs. I have returned successfully to status quo. My beautiful Trinitron has returned with the old resolution (ie) 512x384. I have a full post mortem to report, the what went wrong and why. Why? I think that my experience can be useful for others.
In my high res mod, I believe that the cutting of the link from 8 to 9 was successful. My cheap multitester confirmed the successful cut. The soldering of 8 to 10 was again properly done.
I cannot say the same with the isolation of pin 20 which had to be done because my a/b did not have J78 or J79. Really. I did not follow very well the instructions from http://www.geocities.com/edakoda/missing.htm as well as http://www.colourclassicfaq.com/general/vga.html . It seems that the cutting of pin 20 should be done between the odd and even pins on the board. Because it is a very narrow area to try to cut the pin, I was never able to cut pin 20 successfully. As a result the video would never light up.
I have a suggestion that both authors should never have anyone try to cut any pin between the odd and even set. It's much too narrow. If Pin 20 should be cut then it should be clearly identified by count it from the 2 pin in order to identify it exactly. The numbering on the board can be skewed. I suggest cutting the line from the ic?? to the pin. Cutting odd pin numbers is easy because you cut them on the side closest to the plastic card edge.
I hope that this helps and I'm now open for another Hi REs mod.

Thanks
