Your linking of barrel distortion with case addition, due to PSU loading is a fascinating observation. Several of us have encountered CCs which, after a VGA mod, refuse to let the barrel distortion be corrected. I had assumed it was a video issue -as had, I guess, other people.

If it's a PSU problem, it's much more easily corrected, eg by powering the HD from a separate little supply.

Your suspicions would be confirmed if the geometry improved when you disconnected the HD power leads, and booted from floppy. If that does happen, then it's a significant contribution to our undertstanding of some Mystic problems.
