Wierd alright.

What appears to be happening is that the monitor drops from 16 colours back to 4 colours, but only selectively, and once or twice has managed to hold in 16 colours when switching between a window back to the Finder, before dropping back to 4 colours again.

Second wierd thing is that I can't boot from floppy. I haven't actually touched the floppy drive during the modification process and there seem to be no loose connections.

As for VRAM, I've also swapped boards with another CC and it works fine in the other one. Must be mod related.

The Hi-Res mod seemed OK otherwise. Good picture, hardly any barrel distortion, the odd crackle from the speaker on boot up (when loading extensions and very rarely during HD access). I isolated 8, linked up with 10 (one joint was a bit of a blob) , removed J78 and blobbed a bit of solder on J79.

Would be grateful any other suggestions or ideas. It seems really close to perfection.

Carl.
