I'm an expert at the no-video problem, as I work on several Macs a day that come in with that problem. Basically, all of the '040 and early PPC machines suffer from it--it's a logic board design flaw-- and you can get around the problem by shutting the machine off and then immediately back on. I think the immediate power surge cycles enough juice through the circuitry to kick in the video processor. The simplest fix is of course to replace the battery!
