Hi Bruce, Good point about the pics.

Ironically I only use my CC these days to run my old Color QuickCam (that's why I'm such a mhz whore!) so until my other CC comes back from the friend using it at the moment I'm in a catch 22 there ;-) But as soon as I have another CC to run the camera I'll do some shots. I've found the instructions at the Gabezing Room easy enough to follow, but some actual pics of the logic board would probably be handy for those a bit nervous about the whole excercise. Plus my latest one is a masterpiece, so I'd like to show it off!

I'm touched by your concern about damaging the board, but given that this whole CC obsession of ours is a bit of an excercise in obsurdity in any case - I kind of think, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Let's face it, for the cost of what we do to these little Macs, we could all easily buy secondhand iMacs, couldn't we?

You think US$225 is a good price for the PowerCard 100? I'm embarassed to say I paid US$330 for mine on eBay - and I'm in Australia - that's about equal to the weekly wage here! So I'd have to take a bit of a bath if I sold it. Like I mentioned initially, I've never been impressed by the performance of it, so I'm prepared to push it a little in an attempt to get my money's worth. I'm only running it at 114mhz currently, and it hasn't bombed yet. And at the risk of being branded a heretic, I have to admit that my new iBook has stolen the place in my heart that used to be kept for my CCs - so I'm a bit more relaxed about it than I would have been when they were my only Macs.

I've done all my clock chipping from the info at the Gabezing Room you linked to (http://gabezing.sytes.net/LC575-40Mhz-E.html). I've found that the best source of general info about which Macs can be clock-chipped is this one by Marc Schrier (http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~schrier/mhz.html) And the best source of parts is Output Enablers (http://www.io.com/~oe/) Mark's company - who I've found to be very helpfull, cheap and reliable.

As far as clock-chipping in general, I've done it with 3 CC/LC575s and a Quadra 605. I haven't killed any of them. Although I had no success with the 605, I found it no drama to undo the upgrade, and it's still going strong. But as far as clock-chipping in general - I say go for it! I always practice first - usually on an old original CC logic board - and make sure not to attempt that delicate soldering and logic board surgery with a hangover!
