Subject: Speakers (again)

I was browsing this forum yesterday and reading a few e-mails at the same time when someone mentioned something about an LC-class Mac.

All of a sudden it hit me: what about the speaker from an LC II or later? I went home after work and tried it out. No dice - they're too large in diameter by about a centimetre. Ah well, it was a thought...

...but then I decided to start prepping for the PowerCC, since a friend is sending me a 6400 board gratis and I had a 636CD with no hard drive and a sketchy CD-ROM drive in the basement. I started taking the 636 apart, saving all the electronic bits. Boy, those things are a PAIN to work in. For anyone who's never removed a 630 wiring harness, well, imagine taking your CC apart and putting it back together. Twice. Blindfolded.

I got the 636 down to bare metal except for the power supply and removal of the front drive sled. On a hunch, I removed the front drive sled and what do ya know! There was a CC speaker sitting in the bottom of the case. With a dead fly thoughfully included underneath it, probably straight from the factory on 12 Dec 1994 when it was made :)

So for you stereo upgrading folks, look for dead 63x/640-series Macs for those speakers. Whoever it was with the 63x series parts, get a hold of me if you still have a speaker. I think I need one more. Meanwhile, the search continues for a speaker setup like Mr Tsun's...
