IMHO, 6500/6500 boards HAVE to be the best, unless you value your time so lowly that after all the work you've done, you'd save a few bucks on getting a lesser board.

x400 boards will be a lot better than earlier ones, but do need the 3.3v work.

x500 boards will take single card PCI risers with no extra case surgery, and my PCC (with the installed but problematic 3.3v line) drives a PCI Ethernet card fine.
