As a couple others suggested, I would just ask him what he would prefer.

Also, I want to send you big kudos for being so supportive of him. So many trans kids don't have that.

I came out to my mom as gay last year (I'm 15 now), and even though I didn't anticipate that she would have any problem with it, I was still really nervous (she was awesome).

I'm sure it means the world to J that you have his back. ❤️
