Subject: Danceouts were so fun in the day and now the kids are grown
In reply to: 's message, "I had to buy a brand new pair of hard shoes after shows last year. $200 for a new pair of shoes plus the time it takes to break them and the gas money to go all over town to not see a single penny. Never again. The owner literally steals the tip money from the kids and doesn’t see anything wrong with it. SPD shows are over for us." on 23:28:24 02/16/24 Fri

When the kids were little they were not paid. When they became Open Champions at times they were paid, if in fact the client did pay. Many times we did nursing homes for free and delighted the residents. To me that is enough!

Most teachers work their tails off for so little money. Many of us parents work at jobs that pay decently and have pensions and retirement and health care. Our teachers get none of this. I'm so grateful that our teacher sacrificed so much to pursue the art of dance!

When your kids grow up and the danceouts are gone, you may realize how sad it is to complain about the kids not being paid. My kids would have loved to go paid or not.

The teachers in almost all cases make very little. If you combine Covid into the picture, they have suffered beyond words with many blows to income.

Our feis numbers have declined dramatically. IMHO the instructors deserve anything they can get from bars and restaurants for danceouts.
