Dr Perry, please forgive me if I geek out a little bit but I'm trying to envision how a mouth spreader could keep the child from making a loud noise. I mean I can certainly understand how it would allow for examination of the tonsils and the mouth and tongue and such. The child can't close his or her mouth. But how would it quiet the child down? Just curious.

I like the idea of the festive and brightly colored balls because they could sort of look like a child's toy even though they would be very effective to muffle the child. Kind of in the same vein of the colorful and cartoonish band-aids.
