When handling catheters, hygiene is always the first rule!
First, you should thoroughly disinfect the entire pubic area. I am of course assuming that your older girl will be raised completely hair-free, as is usually the case with diaper-wearing children.
For girls, you should then insert a cotton ball soaked in disinfectant into the vaginal entrance, similar to a tampon - especially if she is on her period when the catheter is inserted. For boys, you don't have to worry about this, of course, but you should also make sure that the area under the foreskin is also thoroughly disinfected. Especially if he is not circumcised.
After this preparatory work, you should wash your hands thoroughly and put on sterile disposable gloves.
Then disinfect the urinary outlet again and inject approx. 6ml of Instillagel into the ureter. You should spread the remaining Instillagel on the tip of the catheter and then insert it slowly but firmly. Once you have overcome the resistance of the sphincter, push the catheter a little further until the urine starts to flow out. Then you can block the catheter balloon with 8ml of saline solution and pull it back a little until you feel a little resistance. The urine should still continue to flow. This means that the catheter is properly placed and the child can continue to be diapered.
Recommendations for catheter sizes are of course very individual and without knowing the child, I can hardly give advice. As a first guide, you can try:
For boys, I would try 11 Charrière, for girls, 14 Charrière. You could perhaps buy a set of stainless steel dilators and try to find the right size that way.
