Subject: How do you approach First-Time Obedience in your home?

Hi everyone

I’m currently working on being more consistent with First-Time Obedience in our home and would love to hear your experiences encouragement and practical tips

We’re a Christian family and it’s important to us to raise our children with structure heart training and biblical values. I want my children to learn to obey not just out of fear or habit but from a trusting and respectful heart. That said it’s definitely a journey and not always easy

Right now we use some preventive strategies like setting clear expectations ahead of time using charts and visual reminders and doing warm-ups to help guide our kids back on track before defiance sets in. We also practice sitting still for periods of time and have days where the children are encouraged to be quiet and speak very little or not at all to help them focus and practice self-control. When needed we also have a rubber spatula which is used very rarely and never in anger as a tool for discipline. We always try to correct with calmness clarity and follow up with love conversation and prayer

Still I find myself struggling at times especially when the day is long or emotions are running high. I want to be firm but kind and consistent without becoming harsh or reactive

So I’d love to hear from other parents who are also aiming for first-time obedience. How did you introduce it in your home? What helped you stay consistent and gracious? How do you handle repeated disobedience or testing behavior? Any routines scriptures or encouragement that have helped you stay the course

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. I’m looking forward to learning from your wisdom and experience

Warmly
Aliva
