"Kian are Very Rare, and normally only seen in the canals in a city, or the bay near one. Water-dwelling kin to dopplegangers, kian are equally comfortable in salt or freshwater. In their natural form, they look very similar to tritons; their skin is a pallid gray, and their legs end in shining silver fins. Their eyes are bright and lively; most kian have high to exceptional intelligence (11-16). Their evil land-based cousins steal the lives of their victims, but kian merely sculpt themselves after them in admiration. Every kian is humiliated of its natural form and will only communicate face-to-face in an assumed one. They venture out of the water when they reach manhood (for every kian is extremely male) and comb cities for handsome men (Charisma 15+). They will then use their innate but weak 'charm' ability, trying to convince the man to allow the kian to clone him. If refused, the kian will not initiate combat, being peace-loving, but merely find another attractive male. After modeling themselves after one man in this fashion, kian will permanently have two forms- their natural, which is handier in water, and their clone, which they adore and is easier on land. They are interested in sculpture and all forms of art, being preoccupied with physical beauty. They enjoy meeting young women and using their limited powers of enchantment/charm and illusion to make them happier. Few kian ever commit to one mate. They live for about 350 years, and while their natural form ages, their clone form remains forever the same as when first acquired. Kian are normally a boon to their city, acting as merchants and artisans and guarding ships.
Kian are average fighters at best. In water, they fight as priests (not spells, but proficiencies and HP), and use tridents or spears, sometimes magical. They can have anywhere from 3 to 10 HD, higher ones being quite rare. Weaker kian hide inside caves until they gain prowess. On land in their natural forms, they fight clumsily at best, and do their utmost to change form or get into water. Their stats and HP are the same as their model in their clone form, but any skills have to be learned. Most kian are very good at land combat in their clone forms. They can breathe either water or air in either form."
