More about kian- because they are all male and all taught to loathe themselves as they naturally are, all kian have MAJOR inferiority complexes. They make Lee Harvey Oswald look well-adjusted. They all believe that kian are inferior to humans or demihumans and want to become like their 'superior' race. Each one is dramatically convinced that he is hideous and worthless, and that the only meaning of his existence is to make pretty young girls happy. They were often terrorized and abused by older kian as children because of their inability to change form and perceived 'ugliness.' A depressing group in general, but very kindly to pretty girls.
It is hypothesized that the reason they expend so much energy trying to make swweet and beautiful young ladies happy was their treatment as a child. They want these women to have everything and feel as safe as they never could. They also wouldn't mind having children. Unfortunately, any offspring are unfailingly twins- a kian male and a human (or demihuman) female. The kian must be dropped into the canals where they live miserably with their brethren. Kian-kin girls always live their lives with an unfulfilled sense of longing and inconsistency; they have shapeshifter blood without magic, and they never knew their father or brother. Ouch.
