Subject: WVOF Internet Audio Troubleshooting

Hello Stag Fans,
I have a few tips on internet streaming for you if you are having trouble as well as a few updates you can expect to occur in the near future.

1st thing 1st - if you are unaware, you can find all the men's and women's basketball games broadcast on WVOF 88.5 this season. WWW.WVOF.ORG has 2 audio streams so that when both the men and the women are playing they can both be heard. Currently the 1st stream which is the FM broadcast signal is streaming via Windows Media Player which comes standard on most PC's so if you have a PC you should be able to get that stream no problem. If you do have a problem it is most likely with you internet service provider or modem. You should be able to access the stream even with a slow modem and computer. But it is possible that a high amount of people listening could result in your innability to access the stream. This is something WVOF is working on. I'll explain later.

The 2nd stream runs off of a program called Quicktime. It is similar to Windows media player but it is a completely different software application needed to access that stream. The reason that Quicktime is needed has to do with the type of computer that is sending the streaming signal. The 2nd stream runs off of an apple server (computer). Why? because it is suppose to be the most stable server out and it is able to handle a high amoung of listeners linking to the stream. The plan is to have both streams running off these computers in the near future. That means that both computers would be streaming using Quicktime. The WWW.WVOF.ORG website will alert you at least 2 weeks before this change takes place and I will drop a note in this chat room to make sure you are all made aware.
OK so now to the Quicktime Troubleshooting that I think many of you will find very usefull.
Ok #1. If you don't have the latest version of Quicktime you will not be able to access the stream. It must be Quicktime 6.0. If you already have quicktime on your computer please check to make sure that it is version 6.0 by doing the following.
a) Open Quicktime - double click on the Quicktime Icon . It's usually a blue Q.
b) Once Quicktime has popped up on your screen select EDIT from the toolbar. Select PREFERENCES. Select QUICKTIME PREFERENCES. Select ABOUT QUICKTIME.
c) The version of Quicktime should now be displayed on your screen. If it doesn't say Quicktime 6.0 or higher you will need to download the latest version of Quicktime. Here's the link:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
The download is free so if you are asked for credit cards or anything like that you are in the wrong place.

OK so now that you have downloaded Quicktime 6.0 or higher you should be able to access the stream by linking to stream 2 (or web studio) from WWW.WVOF.ORG. If you run into problems please try the following steps. This seems to be the overwhelming problem with quicktime users on the WVOF stream. Ok here goes:
a) Open Quicktime - double click on the Quicktime Icon . It's usually a blue Q.
b) Once Quicktime has popped up on your screen select EDIT from the toolbar. Select PREFERENCES. Select QUICKTIME PREFERENCES. Select STREAMING TRANSPORT.
b) See the black dot on the screen, make sure it is next to USE HTTP. This will fix everything! Not sure why it wasn't on HTTP in the first place but sometimes it does that.
c) Close that window. And try the stream again. If it doesn't work now please email me and let me know what the heck is going on so we can have someone try to figure it out.

One last hint: some computers will not stream correctly if you have 2 applications open that play music. For example. If you have WinAmp or Windows Media Player and Quicktime 6.0 Open it might cancel out the audio that you are trying to play from quicktime..SO.. make sure that all other audio playing applications are closed before you open Quicktime or attempt to link to the stream.

Well, that's it. That wasn't so bad was it. Well maybe it was but it's worth it if you can listen to your Stags around the world. Good luck ! and if you're still having problems with the stream please let me know.

Casey,

Thanks for the info. I will try to connect to stream 2, and let you know how I make out. You should consider putting these instructions on the WVOF site for new listeners.

I would suggest that all other posters do the same, and try to connect now before the change is made to stream 2.

If it does not work, email Casey.
