Subject: This Gai is a STAG...Puma had a deadline to meet....

All the posts regarding Gai's "discontent" and "tensions" with coaching staff have been shown to be exactly what they are - idiotic blabber for self-serving individuals..

Gai has made the proper and wise choice - it took only 1/2 hour for TOT to convince him - that shows respect and a commitment to the coach and the FU program -

The entire "event" smacks of Puma not having anything original or insightful (shocking..) to write and a deadline rapidly approaching.. Good job Mike - you created a non-situation that was good enough for three whole columns ... who needs creativity when you can make up an entire situation.???

Welcome "back" Deng - here's to Taking the NIT!! Go Stags!

Yeah, I saw Puma holding a gun to Deng Gai's head that night forcing the kid to make those comments. The CT Post is an evil empire that ranks with Saddam Hussein's.

[> Gai has his issues, not worth transferring over -- JCM, 18:24:16 03/16/03 Sun

Gai has his issues/concerns and frankly I don't agree with most of them. But the fact is he feels they are important and consequently they needed to be treated as such and taken seriously. I am happy that Gai has decided to stay at Fairfield. Frankly I think it is the best thing for him, and I also think it is best for the program

I doubt the situation is over with, by a lot. There is a game to play, then Deng's issue's with FF to be dealt with. Re-read that statement, they do not come any more pre-written than that, and I don't mean by Deng. I bet this issue is far from over. In FF's favor is his having to sit a year, but Europe is a very enticing alternative...

OMM - you obviously know the Gai situation better than anyone on this board. What does FU/TOT need to do to keep him for the next 2 years?

ok - let me get this straight truth, right after the league championship is over, a player who has been dubbed the savior tells puma that he wants to transfer because he wants to play in the NBA. Puma writes it. Explain what puma did wrong?

Maybe the player should learn to just be quiet ifm he does not want this stuff in the paper.

If puma does not right that, he is a poor reporter

[> PUMA RIGHT - article should have run -- Reindeer Fan, 23:21:17 03/16/03 Sun

I have been among the first to critize the CT Post's coverage of the stags. In my mind not enough coverage. For example, I really thought they should have had an article today on Fairfields chances for an NIT birth and possible opponents.

With that being said, Deng Gai made comments to Mike Puma. Gai does not deny the comments. Puma is a reporter. He has an obligation to run with these comments. This is the stuff that sells newspapers. Mike's article was reasonably written. What do you want the guy to do, ignore the biggest story surrounding FU basketball this year?
