Subject: MAAC Tourney Predictions

Here is how I envision the Tournament going:

#5 Iona over #10 Loyola - should be an easy game for Iona, as Loyola does not have enough inside defense.

#7 Rider over #8 St Peters - don't be surprised to see both Clark and Johnson score over 40 points apiece, maybe 50..... its Ensor's plan for the 2 Top Scorers in NJ to go wild to boost attendance, and this will help. Rider has more defense and will win a tight game.

#9 Canisius over #6 Marist - first upset, as Dux/Mallory/Ferris have a lot of MAAC Tourney experience..... and a lot of Tourney wins. Griffs win by double digits.

---------------------

#5 Iona over #4 Niagara - rematch of last year, this time Gaels take it. Smith and Fields will get Niagara Big Men in foul trouble. Close 1st half turns into 10 point Iona win.

#2 Fairfield over #7 Rider - Rider keeps it close with 3-pointers, but Stags inside scoring and defense will grind out a single digit win.

#3 Siena over #9 Canisius - Griffs have played really well for portions of games this year, and will put a big scare into Siena..... But will lose in the final minute.

----------------------

#5 Iona over #1 Manhattan - Iona will be very loose after already winning 2 games. Manhattan will have all the pressure of winning Gonzo's 1st MAAC Tourney game, and the #1 seed. 10 point win.

#2 Fairfield over #3 Siena - Stags will turn this into a defensive game..... one of those 2.5 hour games with lots of fouls, and players fouling out. Stags make the key stop on the last possession.

---------------------

#2 Fairfield over #5 Iona - After a close first half, Stags turns up the defense in the 2nd half and depth becomes an advantage. Ajou is Tournament MVP.

I'll give it a shot.

#5 Iona over #10 Loyola
#7 Rider over #8 St. Peters
#9 Canisius over #6 Marist

#4 Niagara over #5 Iona
#2 Fairfield over #7 Rider
#3 Siena over #9 Canisius

#4 Niagara over #1 Manhattan
#3 Siena over #2 Fairfield

#3 Siena over #4 Niagara for back to back MAAC titles.

Here's to hoping I am a terrible forecaster!

GO STAGS!

Yes, wouldn't that be a great story ...... and not totally out of the realm of possiblities.

Sometimes players step-up. Sometimes they are the least likely. These could be Ajou's last games in his college career, I got the feeling he might make the most out of them..... and it would be an unforgetable story.

I can't see us beating Manhattan that easily.

I think we'd all sign for an Iona-Fairfield final right now. Anyone but Siena. Their fans are only surpassed by Fordham in terms of arrogance and delusion.

don't you lump everyone together like that.......and besides, most people are busting back at what you are saying..............you should know, the real hardcore MAAC fans respect each other and the other teams in the league...........don't misinterpret much of what some are saying as the true belief, thats crazy!!!!!!!

: )

Still think Iona is going to the finals? You Iona fans have surpassed Fordham fans in the heights of delusional. Iona has 2 straight 5th place MAAC finishes with first round exits in the MAAC tournament. Try winning a game or two in the MAAC tournament before you shoot your foot off with your mediocre team.

Once Again Guy proven wrong

I agree with all your predictions except, I believe Iona finds a way to beat Fairfield in the finals. I do not believe we will see Manhatten in the NCAA's. And if Iona does go on to win the tournament it will prove that getting the bye and double bye really don't mean that much.

[> Re: MAAC Tourney Predictions -- Old Man Maac, 16:24:50 03/05/03 Wed

I thinks whoever wins the Siena/FF semi final game(I'm assuming both get there), will win the tourney. Unfortunately I don't think it will be FF. I hope I am wrong.

Stags won the last two MAAC tourneys that I attended.

I'm gonna be there this weekend. Nuff said.

Stagman's streak notwithstanding, I'm picking Siena. The Saints are too big, and a real bad matchup for us.

I'm surprised no one has chosen Manhattan. Do we all hate their midget twerp coach that much?

I agree OMM, the Siena/FF winner (assuming neither of us get upset) will go on to win the Monday night game. I expect a hard fought close game, maybe coming down to last possession

That last message wasn't from the real Stagman. A pitiful imposter.
