Subject: CT Post - TOT's Contract

No extention has been offerred or signed yet. Doris will reccommend the extention and I think Fr Kelly will approve it. The open question will probaly be the length of the extention..... and I think that will depend a lot on how we do in the MAAC Tourney. I think the Contract looks a lot different if we win the MAAC Tourney as opposed to a 1-and-done,

CT Post - TOT's Contract

I'm glad he isn't locked in yet. If we are one and done in the MAAC play-offs Doris and Kelly have a difficult decision to make. At least a win or two in the MAAC tourney combined with an NIT appearance should be enough to warrant an extension. 17-10 is a good year. But 20-7 was definately attainable w/out a couple of 2nd half coaching meltdowns. Lets just hope FF plays well in the post season and everyone comes back happy next year.

here we go again. the guy has the best record in years, starts a young team, has great recruits coming in who are winners and you experts are still critical. tot will be a big time coach. he has all the tools. its funny coach k and jimmy b think the world of him and some clown named free beer doesn't. No matter what he accomplishes it wil never be enough to satisfy all you negative thinkers.

I don't think anyone questions his recruiting or his inspiation of defensive intensity. But we expect someone who can do what has been already mentionned can do BETTER on offense as well as some situational areas.

I think this is a BALANCED view not a negative view. Response? Thoughtful, preferably.

A clown? Oh that's funny!!! Let me give you a real dose of reality. First of all, I'd love to see the Stags run the table and TOT get a contract extension. I root for his success, but I'm not blind to his coaching handicaps. I don't care how much Coach K thinks of him. I'm sure he thinks alot of his wife, but that doesn't make her a great coach. TOT has had one..1.. repeat 1!! winning season. Granted he's a tremendous recruiter, he just seems to be slow developing into a D-1 "game" coach. So get your head out of TOT's ass and look at things objectively. If you hired an investor who lost you money three out of the four years you employed him, would you rehire him? You must weigh both the positives and the negatives and make your dsecisions accordingly. Enough of your delusional ass-kissing and get real. Bozo!!

let me get this straight mr. beer you are comparing a division I basketball program that has had 3 winning seasons in the last 20 years to an investor investing money. Look at the sad state of affairs in college basketball today. Georgia, St.Bona, R.I., Fresno State TOT has graduated every player he has brought into the program. There is no cheating, no payoffs, and everything he has accomplished he has developed himself. He is one of the finest young coaches and if you pull his players, assistents, and counterparts you will find they all feel the same way, so go back to drinking your beer and pretending to know what your talking about because like most people who write in on these websites, you have never played a day of hoops, much less coached. P.S. when did fairfield ever have a tradition in basketball. Maybe TOT has started one.

First of all...successful coaches are measured by wins and losses...PERIOD!! Secondly,if you poll(not "pull" Einstein)his former players you will find not all of them have nice things to say. Especially Darren Philip, who led the nation in rebounding and was one of the hardest workers this program has ever seen. Also, Fairfield had a tremendous winning reputation in the 70's (a top ranking in New England when NE basketball was great)and 2 trips to the NCAA's in the 80's (w/TOT as a player). Obviously you've been hitting the cat tranquilizers a little hard lately. BTW, I've played in competitive basketball leagues my whole life (most recently a very competitive New Britian rec-league). Not to mention football at the college level. Okay Dean Smith!!! Next time do a little research and get your information correct.

coach beer looks like i hit a nerve. its nice to know that your a big time rec player who tried to play div 3 football.this makes you a real expert on div 1 hoops and coaching. how many winning seasons in the last 20 years? maybe the reason the arena is always empty is because of losers like you. go back to your beer league and pretend.tot will get everything he deserves and has worked for. go stags

Mike F on the fan said it best "who do you people at FU think you are?" We do not know how lucky we are to have TOT. I wish him all the best. I hope he wins the tourney, coach of the year and tells FU and their contract extension to stick it where the sun don't shine. Then negative folks like free beer you can watch the men's basketball program go the way of hockey and football.

You just don't get it!!! I LIKE TOT and I hope he earns a new contract. But, numbers don't lie. I don't mind you busting my balls but at least have the nerve to do it to my face. What college did you play or coach for that makes you such an expert? I've been following FF basketball since the late 70's so excuse me if I know anything. Little insecure video game masters like yourself have absolutely no grasp of reality. It's my fault the Arena is empty? Hey man, I shell out my money every year. You? Go back to your Sony PlayStation and inflattable girlfriend until you grow balls drop and you become a man. Okay coach?

mr.beer, you are a very insecure person who does not like anyone standing up to you.your latest comments have no meaning at all. you like tot, what a joke with friends like you who needs enemies. if you think you stand for whats good about f.f bb i see why the schools sports program is in such trouble. go back to your beer league and try and hold the 50 year old, bald, jewish guy to under 30.good luck you has been that never was.

Reality, the jury is still out on O'Toole with no verdict to be rendered until after the tourney. These discussions on this board are premature. I would be loath to take your position before the season is complete. If this team is eliminated in the first round, then the likliehood of there being a contract renewal becomes far less certain. Doris said that he would recommend that TOT be retained but this recommendation is subject to approval by Fr. Kelley and it is this aspect which should be a cause of concern to those who favor having TOT return. College presidents do strange things sometimes.

The University and Fr.Kelly would show their true lack of support (and ignorance) for athletics if they fail to renew TOT.

Free_Beer - I have battled with many of these fu______g idiots on this board for more than a year now and find that they are incapable of being objective. Personally, I'd like to pummel most of them but my wife wouldn't appreciate that, especially if it was at a game. Your points are well taken, by me at least. I want an extension for TOT because basically, I don't want to start over. I think he has done a decent job this year. For all you aholes who think it has been tremendous, thank god you don't work for me - you'd be fired before you sat your ass down in your cubicle (you don't get an office because of your lack of sense). This year could have been special, but it has not been. It has been good. I, along with Free_Beer, shell out the money and go to every game possible (except for when they play in a blizzard).

It is unbelievable to me how posters like reality (where have you been for the last year) are unable to accept "reality" and must be so goddamn politically correct. In addition, these posters are hypocritical - stating that nobody should rely on opinions of posters to a forum like this - than why the f should be consider your opinion? Stupid idiots.

Anyway, let's hope for us winning the MAAC or getting a home game in the NIT - READ THOSE WORDS ALL OF YOU LIBERALLY BIASED IDIOTS

[> [> Re: CT Post - TOT's Contract -- ghostman, 11:21:00 03/07/03 Fri

Plusses of TOT:

Recruiting - he's got the horses
Intensity - somewhat double edged, but we have to admit, we loved it when he was a player a player. He is tough on players and expects a lot. Ajou said in the Post the other day "we respect him".
He won here as a player
He took a chance on us coming here - first year reduced salary
He is a grad
Relationship with former players, Darren Phillip not withstanding, is excellent - look at the fomer players that come back for the Alumni game - Cormier and Bounaguro didn't get that.
Good working relationship with Doris -
Active Alumni, class individual, community involved (both he and the players)
Minimal player incidents -
We already endured a lot of his growing pains -
Great pedigree, good relationship with former coaches, good relationship with some AAU programs
Probable NIT/NCAA this year, lots back, good recruits -

Enough already. Group hug all the way around. We share a common cause here. Let's get a good performance in the tourney and let the TOT situation play itself out. I support our coach but he's not above criticism. Beers on me. BTW, I have yet to have a 50yr. old beat me off the dribble yet!!
