Subject: Recruiting needs- an inside presence

This is an over view of the Stags by position and class. Some players play more than 1 position.Unfortunately, we did not see Logan and not enough of Deng this year. O' Sullivan replaces Nick Delfico and Van Schaick takes Logans spot as a shooter. That leaves 2 roster holes from Ajou Deng and Oscar Garcia. From this it seems that we need what you cannot teach - height. We are left with Deng and Thompson as our big men. We need a rebounder and an athletic big man scorer who can be an impact player(s) as our freshmen have been. Mamadou Diakhate maybe a fit with his strength. Possibly a JUCO?

Sorry, the spread sheet got lost in the translation. The Stags are graduating a 2,3 and two 4's. Thompson, a junior, is our only 5 and stands alone with Deng Gai as our only returning big men with significant minutes. We seem OK at point guard and are bringing in a 2 in Van Schaick and a 3/4 in O'Sullivan. I have seen Mamadou Diakhate and he is a well coached very strong player with offers from Manhattan and GW. I think that he could fit but our need is that we have 2 scholarships left and have not replaced 2 big men- Deng and Garcia.

Agree, we need a Inside player for next year..... a Darren Phillip type would be perfect. If we get a really good player, that player would have a chance to start. If its a frosh, he would have to be really good to get significant playing time. If we can get a Prep school, foreign, or Juco player, that would give us more immediate impact.

I do see Thomson as are starting center next year, Backed-up by Feleccia. The key transition will be Gai moving to a PF, where he will be counted on to be more of a scorer, and more of a dunker/3-point shooter. I do see Gai as the player replacing Garcia offensive production.

Replacing Delfico will probably be done with a combo of Maxwell and Bell. Sop if we have a 2nd ship available I would go with the Best player available, or even hold it as Thomson would be our only graduating senior next year.

Here is is what Insiders report just said about Diakhate this past week "Diakhate told Rivalshoops.com that he has heard from Florida State, George Washington, Eastern Kentucky, Manhattan, Ohio University, and Monmouth, among others. George Washington, Eastern Kentucky, Manhattan, and Monmouth have offered. Mamadou took official visits to Cleveland State, Eastern Kentucky, and Monmouth this winter. Cleveland State is no longer in the picture. Diakhate will likely use his two final visits after the season, but is unsure where he will go."

I meant to say.....Gai will be looked to MORE THAN just a dunker/3-point shooter on offense. This will be the best thing for his career, as his best position is eventually at Forward.

I can see Gai as a 20 ppg scorer next year. This is where I thought Roshown McLeod would have been a big help.

Sounds like an interesting player, big body and another lefty shooter. Playing in CT, sounds that we should be interested.

Date: January 27, 2003

Rafael Madera, a 6'10'' 250 pound BF/C from Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut has garnered interest from a wide variety of schools this winter.

Madera has caught the attention of schools like UMass, Delaware, and Rider, yet he also has some high majors like Providence and Miami who are taking a look.

The big-bodied lefty and native of New York City is a hard-worker with a soft-touch. He gets a lot of his buckets in close but can step out and knock down the mid-range shot on occasion.

Madera, who was waiting on an SAT score previously, is fully qualified academically.

Rafael played with The CAS Warriors this past summer.
