Subject: Seeding Possibilities

I understand with a win in Baltimore on Saturday, gives the Stags a #2 seed. Let's go the other way, if an upset occurs, (which I am sure will give everyone on this board an ulcer as well as a probable first round loss) does anyone know what is the lowest we can go?

I am guessing even if Iona, Siena, and Niagara win out we should be no lower than a #4 seed. And with the Gaels and Saints playing MU, the likelihood of them each winning the last two is small.

I am looking for a win on Saturday, a win against Canisius on 3/8 and a great re-match with Niagara on 3/9.

GO STAGS

I cringe at having to play Niagara again, but probably likely. Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm, just like Siena did to us last year.

If we lose to Loyola, we could drop to the 4th seed if both Siena and Niagara win out. Their would be a 3 way tie and we would lose the tie breaker to both schools.

IMO, it is extremely important that we stay out of the 4th seed, even though we get a bye..... cause the scenario would be that we would probably

- open with Iona in the Quarter-finals
- play Manhattan in the semi's

That would be a very tough bracket.

In the event of a four-way tie, Siena would be the 2, Niagara the 3, Fairfield the 4 and Iona the 5. This result comes from the MAAC's tiebreaker policy, which in instances of ties between more than 2 teams creates a "mini-conference" and uses the records of the teams in that format. With this in mind, Siena would be 4-2 (swept Niagara, split with Iona and Fairfield), Niagara 3-3 (swept Fairfield, got swept by Siena, split with Iona), Fairfield 3-3 (split with Siena, swept Iona, got swept by Niagara), and Iona 2-4 (swept by Fairfield, split with Niagara and Siena).

In three-way ties involving Fairfield, it would depend on who the other two teams are, obviously. You'd benefit from having Iona among the three but would get hurt by having Niagara there. In a three-way tie with Niagara and Siena, you guys would be fourth.

In individual tiebreakers, Fairfield would obviously finish ahead of Iona and behind Niagara. With Siena, it would depend on how the Saints do vs the Jaspers tonight. If Siena wins, then it would come down to who the FOURTH seed is--if it's Iona, you guys win out; if it's Niagara, they do!

MUCH will be clearer after tonight's Siena-Manhattan game, so stay tuned!
