Subject: Fan support for a Bridgeport tournament

The MAAC tournament will not draw as many Fairfield Fans as Albany draws Siena Fans. Fairfield simply does not yet have the Fan base of Siena. But with that being said I really believe the Bridgeport Arena would do fairly well. Manhatten, Iona, Marist and St. Peters are withing an hour and a half drive, and clearly in a year like this year large contingents, in the thousand would attend to support each school. We saw what happened for the Fairfield Manhatten game that drew 5000 on a weeknight, I think we could safely expect at least that number in Brigeport in the Maac Final featured any 2 of the 5 previously mentioned teams. I always go to Albany for the Maac tournament as do many diehard friends I know and I expect Siena and Rider fans could/woud make the 2.5 hour trip. The only teams that would not draw well in Bridgeport would be cansius and Niagara.

Bridgeport is a good location for the Maac tournament not because of FU's fan base but because it is the nearest practical location to the majority of Maac schools.

One question concerning tournament in Bridgeport. Where do people go for dinner and drinks in the basic 2-3 hours between sessions? Certainly not enough time to drive somewhere and back. And not much there (at least not now) to walk to.

Rich Ensor was at the St. Peter's game. He said it's Albany for 2004 and Buffalo for 2005. But, evidently, it's no slam dunk for Albany in 2006. He indicated Bridgeport probably has a shot in '06.

the MAAC is not about to go away from Albany for more than one year at a time..................after a fiasco in Buffalo in 2005, they are not going to take a risk with the unknown in BPort rather stick with what works and then re-evaluate other venues. Again, BPort should have been in the mix all along..............they should have gotten the 2005 tourney!

There are plenty of places to eat/drink not too far away from the arena, a short drive. Milford is loaded with places, and so is Fairfield. Trumbull's got a few too. You can't walk there from the arena, but so what.
