I totally agrea that we are a good team and not a great team.... but I don't think that anyone ever said we were a great team. IMO, yesterday's game showed that if we don't play hard, especially defensively, we will have trouble in even beating the bottom half of the MAAC.

Offensively we are young, we need shooters, and we need a more open offensive strategy that can utilize the 3..... without that, we aren't going to blow many people out. But I do like that our main complaint is that we are not blowing teams out..... its one of those "feel-good" complaints.

I heard a quote by Rick Pitino that said something like..... it you spot up for a 2-pointer instead of a 3-pointer, you will find youself riding the bench on my team. IMO, we shoot the 3 pretty well, but we don't look to shoot, and he hesitate. To be a great team, we need to add that to our arensal.

Using the successfull mid majors in the past as blueprints (Gonzaga, Richmond, Valpo, St Joes).... they all play 3-4 players that can fire and have guard like skills. If anyone has seen St Joes this year, you can see what can happen when you have two great shooters on the wing with a top flight PG in Jameer Nelson. I would think next year, that I would hope to Todd at the PG in the middle with Van Schaick at 2G and Bell at SF on the wings firing away (at least for 10-15 minutes a game). Thants my dream of how we can get to great.

Isn't it nice to be mentioned with such names as a Gonzaga, St.Joes, Valpo, Xavier, etc. It shows that our team is maturing, and the coaching strategy and recruiting of TOT is finally beginning to kick in. We should begin to dominate an improving conference in years to come, esp. with Gai in the middle.

Missing from JS's equation is the PF position, which looks to me like MOS may well take over, replacing our workhorse inside, Oscar. Someone's got to get those rebs (Max, Gai, MOS). Nick too will be gone, and he does his fair share of banging inside.

Let's not forget, we've got at least one more scholarship to give, and we're going for a big man. We could possibly have another one depending on what Logan does, maybe for a transfer.

Finally, one reason we didn't get the blowout was because TOT did some heavy substituting throughout the game, and cleared the bench at the end. That will hopefully help us as we head to tournament time.

I see more of Gai and Max at PF. This is how I would like to see next years Frontcourt..... but much can change with another scholarship to give:

Center: Thomson 25mpg, Gai 15mpg
PF: Gai 15mpg, Maxwell, 15mpg, O'Sullivan, 10mpg
SF: Maxwell 15mpg, Bell 25mpg

With Feleccia and Carter proving good depth and experience. IMO, we need a rugged rebounder (Darren Phillip would be perfect)..... but I would hold out for a great player, because I don't think we are in desparate need for someone to step in next year. This player could be a Frosh, JUCO, Foreigner, or even a Transfer that sits out a year..... take only the best player.

Next year this team is going to need someone who can score in the paint. Gai, and it appears O'Sullivan, are inside/outside players. It would be great if Thomson could show a bit more offense. Fellecia plays so little that it's hard to envision him filling that role. Maxwell and Carter aren't big enough to go up against the other team's big men consistently.

That being said, let's worry about that problem in about a month. This season is turning out to be very good and we might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
