You posted yesterday on the Manhattan board after they lost to Iona about being "prophetic" about where things would stand at the top of the standings. But a review of your 2/12 post reveals you never "prophesized" that outcome at all! You merely stated it as one possibility along with the Jaspers ruling as the other! To get any credit you need to actually MAKE the prediction! What was your "prophecy" about today's game with Rider?

[> [> Inconsistency -- Stagman, 08:59:20 02/18/03 Tue

I have ceased to get upset by losses like yesterday's. This team, in spite of its record, is one of the most inconsistent ever. Not only do they fluctuate wildly from game to game, they fluctuate wildly within each game.

Beat Manhattan at Draddy. Lose to Rider at home.
Beat UNCW. Lose to Charleston Southern.
Beat Iona twice. Lose to Harvard.

Fall behind 17-4 to Rider. Tie the game. Lose. At home.
Fall behind 21-6 to Siena. Win. On the road.
Lead Harvard by 9 at the half. Lose. At home.

They turn the ball over way too much.
They give up way too many offensive rebounds.
Their best player takes five shots.

This team might end up with 17-19 wins, but in all honesty, they are a far cry from past Stag teams that won that many games.

After a 7-0 MAAC start, they are 4-4. Sure 11-4 looks good, but the past three weeks have generated results just like years past. Not a good sign going into the tourney (which by the way is only 17 days away).

IMO they are a prime candidate for "one and done" in the MAAC tourney. They simply are not good enough for us to be confident that, on any given day, they will win, much less win three in a row in the MAAC tourney.

Call me negative, but I fear that this viewpoint is realistic. I'd love to hear a good argument that makes me feel better about the Stags' outlook for the next 3 weeks. I fear that such an argument will be based more on "the other MAAC teams aren't very good" than it will be on "the Stags are playing well".
