The color commentator on tv yesterday made two remarks which got my attention. He first said that F.U. was not playing like a team in a battle for first place and that Fairfield's lack of a three-point shooting threat capable of attacking the Rider zone placed the stags at a distinct disadvantage.
Maybe it is me but it seems that we need to work three times as hard as our opponents to get a decent shot. It seems that there is always someone in our face on the perimeter and when we throw the ball inside our guys are double and triple teamed. Does anyone else get this impression?

We see it time and time again where opponents can come down and score at will (inside or out) and we have trouble penetrating their defenses, and thus have to work much harder for our points. Manytimes we resort to throwing up the ball before the clock runs out.

Part of that problem is that we still do not have a player who can CONSISTENTLY hit a long jumper. I guess our next hope for the shooting guard position will be MVS or maybe Bell in the future, and for the forward, perhaps MOS.

I also think that the coach's attitude and today's comment about playing for first says a lot! Isn't it ironic that the same day that comment is made, that the Post reports that GD wants to make sure TOT stays around.

Stagal, I have to disagree with you when you say that time and time again opponents can come down and score at will (inside or out).... I think our ability to stop our opponent has been a real strength this year, and if we could do a better job on our opponents offensive rebounding our defense would be top notch.

I do agree that we need some players to consistently take and hit the outside jumper, but we don't need to wait for Van Schaick. IMO, Delfico, Bell, Ajou and a more consistent Kudjo are more thatn capable of picking up their shooting. I think TOT has to design plays specifically to free those players up..... especially against a Zone.

I think you are making too much out of TOT comments about 1st place. After a tough game yesterday, I would have said the same thing..... who cares about first place when you show up and play a game like that. The only focus now is to get back to playing well the next game and get a win at Niagara.
