Subject: Keep the faith. Siena's numbers from The Pepsi.
In reply to: GOSTAGS 's message, "Harbor Yard attendance numbers for 2002-2003" on 21:44:57 02/18/03 Tue

You guys should strive for 3000 next year. Don't you guys have Dook coming in? That'll give you a sellout. 3500 is a big step from 2500....that's a 40% increase. Baby steps. Of course, winning will put fannies in the seats. Maybe FF can appeal to local alumni a little more to get a stronger season ticket count. Seems like you guys have about 1000 season ticketholders - given yesterdays "paid attendance". Siena was always getting 3500+ on campus, and stayed at that number for at least three years when they moved all of the games to The Pepsi. I remember about 3,000 on hand for Siena's win over Davidson in 1997 - real coming out party for Hewitt & co. - Saints put up about 100 points, won by 20 and before you knew it, we had 5,000 in the seats. It's going to take some time, but it will be worth the wait. Lots of variables to deal with. You guys getting 4000 is like Siena getting 8000, given the size of the arenas. Here are Siena's numbers:

Univ. at Albany 11672
Northern Iowa 5544
Canisius 6638
Delaware 5125
Xavier 10671
Providence 8875 (in a pretty good snow storm)
Iona 6791
Fairfield 6434
Loyola 5654
Marist 7015
Ryder 5059
Niagara 6647

Totals: 86,125, 7177 per game.

Two games left. Should get 6000 for SPC and 7500 for Manhattan. Saints are just going to miss 100,000 for the season.

GOSTAGS, good analysis

If you take oput the 2 Snow games, we averaged 2,800.... still down from the 2,900 of last year, which included the "Hostage Game". However you look at it we were down 300-400 fans/game. I would describe our attendance situation as follows:

- We have 2,500 dedicated fans that will attend weekend games
- We have 2,000 dedicated fans that will attend weekday games
- For special games we can get 4000-5000 fans
- Our season tickets need to increase, as that directly affected our attendance this year
- Consistent winning will gradually bring up attendance
- We need to schedule smarter. The Monday after Thanksgiving is a disaster date. And if we are to do Weekend games, we MUST be conscious of Giants/Jets games along with NFL playoff games. Suggestion, start the game at NOON on a weekend if Giants are playing at 4PM

With all that said I was most disapointed with the Homecoming attendance of only 3,000+. Some serious Marketing of our Alumni has to ge done.

Focus on Season Tickets and Alumni Marketing.

Its all about winning. Need to have 2-3 more 16-20 win years and then we can expect 5000 per night.

As mentioned prior its hard to focus on season tickets. 2 games were played this year, where it was difficult to attend unless you lived close to B-port. Right now it is fiscally prudent to buy the cheap seats at the door for the games where driving isn't hazardous and sit where you want.

Seasons tix will increase when the team gets better, people want to guarantee themselves a tix and people want to make sure they get a good seat.

11,000 for the Siena-Albany game? Interesting how attractive a back yard rivalry can be. Wonder how a FF-Sacred Heart game would draw at the Arena? Food for thought for the schedule-makers.
