Re: Ajou -- JCM, 00:45:02 01/27/03 Mon
I hope so. I really like Ajou and would like to see him end his career on a positive note. Ajou has done a lot more for this program than what you see in the box score. He brought attention, credibility, and a level of interest from UConn fans. But perhaps most importantly, we would not have landed Deng Gai without Ajou at FU. While its yet to be seen, Gai could develop into the biggest impact player the Stags have ever had. (No I don't think he's there yet. But how many of the all time greats (Bowman, Francis, George, DeSantis, Groom, Phillips, Bradford et al had this kind of a sophomore season...)

Gai - Impact Player -- JoeStag, 07:49:53 01/27/03 Mon
Fairfield has never had a player with Gai's defensive impact, not even close. He is also a major threat on Alley-oops and O-boards. Impact Player is the best word to describe him.
As far as players that had immediate impact..... Joe Desantis and Tony George came in as freshman and scored big numbers even as frosh. I think George had some games in the 30's, while Desantis had a lot of 20pts games in his initial year.
And then there was Phil Rogers who who played his first year on the Frosh team and averaged 35ppg and 17rpg. How about this line-up, just need a SF (Billy Jones????):
PG Joe Desantis
2G Tony George
SF ???????
PF Phil Rogers
CC Deng Gai

Impact Line-up -- JoeStag, 08:03:07 01/27/03 Mon
SonofDoc,
I forgot about Hank Foster as an impact player. That fills out my Impact line-up:
PG: Joe Desantis
2G: Tony George
SF: Phil Rogers
PF: Hank Foster
CC: Deng Gai
Any additions or subtractions??????

Continued Improvement -- Old Man Maac, 11:31:22 01/27/03 Mon
If he continues an his improvement pace, Deng Gai will prove to be the best player your school has ever produced, and a 1st round pick, either next year, or the following. The interesting player that I see is Terrance Todd. He has skills, he could be scary by next year, or the following. He can be as good as he wants to be, when was the last time anyone could say that about a FF guard.

Re: Continued Improvement -- Reindeer Fan, 13:12:47 01/27/03 Mon
I find it hard to assess a player like Todd. In terms on impact, I think of Greg Francis, and Troy Bradford having much more immediate impact than Todd from a scoring perspective. However, they played on no talent teams and consquently shown brightly by comparison to teammates. How would we perceive Todd if he was at loyola or Rider? Would he be scoring 20 points a game if he had gone to Saint Peters?
No way to know the answer to these questions, but it is very hard to compare players from different era's. I hope when all is said and done Todd proves to be a player of the magnitude you suggest.

Re: Continued Improvement( Terrance Todd) -- Rave, 13:46:18 01/27/03 Mon
Don't get infatuated with only scoring. Todd breaks down a defense like no on our team can. He makes everyone around him better. He is a special player.

Re: Continued Improvement( Terrance Todd) -- jenningsbeach, 14:08:08 01/27/03 Mon
Points are gravy with this kid. Not only can Todd break down defenses, he's fearless, especially at crunch time. The ball absolutely has to be in his hands down the stretch: He beats the press, refuses to turn it over, finds the open man and either hits the open shot or gets fouled. Has anyone noticed Todd has made 18 straight free throws?
He's going to be the best PG in school history, whether he scores another point or not.

Hold On! -- Running Man, 18:05:53 01/27/03 Mon
Todd better than Joe DeSantis who was first team All-East at a time when all eastern teams, including current Big East and A-10 members, were part of the pool? Let's revisit this in March of 2006 after Todd finishes his F.U. career.

Todd is sure to be a star but he's got a very, very long way to go before becoming the best point in the school's history. We can only hope, but I'll take second or third best.

Cannot agree more with RM! Seems like you are way ahead of yourself. He'd have to get up to heaven to be with Joey D.
