Subject: Quality Wins

In addition to our overall record, and ComputerRPI, the selection/seeding committee's also look at Quality Wins. I would think that a Quality Win is defined in one of 4 ways.....as any win against a team:

- in the Top 50
- that makes it to the NCAA Tourney,
- that wins 20 games
- team that makes it to the NIT (for NIT Selection)

Our win over UNC-W is definitely a Quality win as they will fit all 4 categories. Siena might be considered a Quality win if they can win 20 games. If we can beat Manhattan in 2 weeks that could be a 3rd Quality Win.

Outside chances of a Quality win would be if Yale turns their season around and wins the Ivy. And American beat Holy Cross over the weekend by 23, so if the up and down American can go on a streak and win the Patriot that could also look good for us. The other outside chance of some quality wins is if Iona almost all of their remaining games.

Is that to say that we want the worst of the best? As opposed to playing Duke should we be attempting to schedule the bottom seed out of the ACC or Big East that makes the NCAAs? If so, other teams that Fairfield plays should include the mid major top 20.
We would have a more realistic shot of winning those games and propel ourselves higher in the polls.

Playing Duke helps us in ComputerRPI, but thats only one factor. Yes we need need quality wins..... the only way to get those is schedule them. I beleive that we will see a Holy Cross and St Joes on the schedule next year. Teams like that in addition to St John's and Duke will make it attractive. UNC-W will be considered a huge win in another 6 weeks. And if Yale did not blow-up...... that would have been bit also.
