Aaliyah Parker picked for preseason All-MAAC team, Niagara voted third in polls.

For the second consecutive season, Niagara’s Aaliyah Parker was named to the preseason All-MAAC first-team.

Parker, who was last year’s MAAC preseason player of the year, was plagued by injuries to start the year and ultimately earned second-team All-MAAC honors after leading the team with 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. Parker was a first-team All-MAAC pick after leading the conference in scoring and steals as a sophomore in 2022-2023.

The Cardinal O’Hara alumna enters the season with 1,202 career points, 621 behind Niagara’s all-time leader Victoria Rampado. Averaging 89 steals per season during her career, Parker is 76 behind her older sister, Angel, who holds the school record with 344.

Joining Parker on the first team were Fairfield’s Meghan Anderson, Sacred Heart’s Ny’Ceara Pryor and Siena’s Teresa Seppala. Fairfield’s Janelle Brown is the preseason player of the year after winning the award last season.

Parker leads a Niagara team that was picked to finish third in the MAAC by the conference’s coaches, tied with Quinnipiac. Two-time reigning champion Fairfield was the unanimous pick to win it again this season, with Siena picked second.

The Purple Eagles finished second in the regular season standings the last two seasons and were an overtime period away from upsetting Fairfield in the MAAC championship game last season. But Niagara returns five players from last season and must replace 60% of its scoring.

Angel Parker, Destiny Strother and Saige Glover graduated, while key players like Chardonnay Hartley, Ary Hicks and Alyssa Rossignol transferred. Niagara added four freshmen, including O’Hara standout Jordyn Williams.

The Purple Eagles also brought in forward Talia Dial, who averaged 11.9 points per game in two seasons at Scottsdale Community College, along with former Radford guard Caliana Fenceroy, Division II Georgian Court transfer Safiatu Kolliegbo and Waterloo’s Jemima Lacroix.

Niagara returns forward Amelia Strong, who averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season. Marlie Dickerson and Lore Porter also return and have 39 career starts between them.

The Purple Eagles also get forward Jade Rutledge back after missing last season with an injury. The O’Hara product averaged 4.7 points and 3.3 rebounds, while starting 24 of 27 games as a freshman.

Niagara opens the season by hosting an exhibition game against Roberts Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Oct. 30.
