Disagree, RCM. Don't get me wrong, I know where you're coming from and understand your prediction, however, I believe that Niagara will continue to play D-1 ball, as long as the portal exists. There are more kids available than program capacity. If kids like J. Martinez are coming from California to play ball at NU with little to no NIL money, that tells me that kids will continue to reach out just to get a free education and play the sport that they love. And remember, some of these less talented kids will also know that they might get a chance to play pro ball overseas; and if they can improve overseas, some might be able to make it to the NBA.

Now I don't disagree with you entirely. Some programs , like St. Francis, NY did, could end their basketball programs, while others could drop down to D-2, D-3, or even NAIA. But I think that the large majority of mid and low major programs will survive at the D-1 level.

If division 1 continues in basketball, it will officially be recognized as D1 and D1a similar to football's FBS and FCS. They are both D1 but....
