that Niagara would lose to teams named Merrimack, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, Mt. St. Mary's, etc.. Many of which were not D-1 schools back in the day.

When Niagara use to play those type of programs, St. Michael's, Belmont Abbey, St. Francis, NY, Central Connecticut State, Gannon, and so many other D-2 and low D-1 schools , they were almost always sure lopsided victories.

Now, Niagara IS that type of cupcake program. We can hardly enjoy celebrating victories over rivals like Canisius, such as in the old days. Today, you have to be politically and socially correct lest you invite the wrath of your own board members. I don't know, it just feels like the end of the line for rooting for Niagara is not far away. I, myself, can feel it.
