And on that note, what would you like him to do? This program goes way back before your time, and in all that time and I mean ALL THAT TIME, not one person stepped forward, not a regent, a board member, a well endowed (not the wiener) former graduate, a group of players, or even one player who wanted to expand the develop the men's basketball program. Just a whole bunch of people who did nothing but talk, talk, talk, complain, blame and piss all over everybody. There was never an effort like there has been at Bona, with dedicated alumni, board members, WOJ, or people who were willing to finance a coach to almost if not more than a million dollar salary.

So based on the fact that the movement, money, willingness and initiative has to come from the OUTSIDE of the school, not the inside, what the fuck to you think is supposed to happen? If it hasn't happened since 1905, just what do you want Simon Gray with absolutely no money, support or initiative from off campus to do, not to mention a university president who apparently doesn't give a shit either.

DO TELL ME THE GRAND PLAN.

Now the school didn't even have the money for this building in 1949 so public funds built it as a public works project. This building was substantially (if $1.3m is substantial) renovated......TWENTY FIVE YEARS GO. When Jack Armstrong was coach, they had to pull over on the Thruway to talk to each other because the school wouldn't even supply them cell phones and that's true because I am the person from the Boosters who brought up a vote to pay for the phones at least initially, until the school felt that was too much of a perk. Also, since the school didn't give a shit about a band, Pat Kerchue found FOR kids willing to play and we provided purple vests for them. FOUR FUCKIN PURPLE VESTS= The NU band.

So the reason the program has floundered so long is because the school and it's alumni haven't cared. Do you understand? They don't care. They had a winning coach and would NOT pay him his worth. It was right in front of your nose, well you might have been a younger man at the time, but in MODERN TIMES they had a bargain in a shit facility and a coach who could make things happen. They let him go. he would have stayed for less money that Hofstra offered.

So pick out someone and blame the shit out of them, but at some point LEARN THE HISTORY and understand WHY things are the way they are. It didn't just happen. The school and it's alumni made sure it never happened.

Let’s not forget the successful coach who left because he lost a receipt from a rental car while recruiting and they wouldn’t reimburse him.

All I can say is that the reason why the school never made an inch of progress developing it's men's basketball program was due to the inaction of both the university and it's alumni. Simon Gray doesn't deserve a single grain of sand on the beach worth of blame. I wish I could say that NU did all they could to build the program with the help of their boards and their alumni and all the corporations that came and went, but the truth is that NU put more thought into constantly changing their locker rooms in that building more than anything else.

Now perhaps throughout the years someone made an attempt to raise the bar for the program, but if that ever happened and I'm not sure that it did, the school showed no inclination to take that route.

Unlike at a school like Bona, if there is nobody who is willing to take the baton and run with it, you can't accomplish much, so the situation with the basketball program as it exists today is the result of the amount of love, respect and dedication both the university and it's alumni along with their various boards have shown towards it.

Simon Gray doesn't deserve a single grain of sand on the beach worth of blame?

He extended Chris Casey twice.
He hired a head coach who never coached a game.
He's keeping Paulus for a seventh season after having 1 winning season in his first six.

You telling me there is anyone in the NCAA who can put a little life into this program?

Simon Gray has a boss, although it seems you are unaware of it. That boss is the current president of the university although again it seems you are unaware of it. That boss once sat on the St John's bench as a priest when Chris Casey was on staff, the last four years as an assistant which once again you are unaware of.

I will forgive you for your incredible ignorance, however the AD in this case Simon Gray was not FREE to make any changes in the basketball head coach. It wasn't his call in the beginning and it wasn't his call to extend the contract.

Now are you going to wake up or stay dumb and a whiner forever?

That guy named Casey is STILL a head coach and making at least 2.5X what he was paid here.

Paulus is plagued by the lack of NU basketball pedigree. JAM somehow overcame it, but the guy had over three decades under his belt when he arrived. Paulus now has a 76 year old building to show, nothing in a trophy case, no recent banners and can't remember the last sold out game.

The last name of the person you want to replace Greg Paulus with.....would that be Christ?

So JAM Is the only person who could ever overcome this?

Just because we've had two stiffs as head coaches since then, doesn't mean we can't win.

JAM is all time great guy. And one of the best coaches NU has ever had.
He would not have had the success at NU he had today with the current environment. One of his best strengths was developing young men and players. Unpolished freshman always thrived their junior and senior years. That no longer happens.

Coach: Since Calvin Murphy fell into Frank Layden's lap, no coach had done it since until JAM and no coach has done it since JAM left. Now we have spanned 59 years. So go back and look at your response.
