First we have a notable contributor scolding his fellow board readers for not contributing 5 figures to the NIL.

Secondly, another contributor wants legal action taken against Voy for allowing it's posters to voice their opinions and to relay rumors about the future of NU basketball. I might add that the Voy board is not affiliated in any way with the university, as is the other board.

Third, one of the posters is content with posting the following should NU drop down to a sub level of D-I like has been done with football:

"I’m fine with that as NU would still stay D1 but would compete for a championship against similar non-Power 4/Group of 5 majors (with the likes of St. John’s, Villanova, St. Bona, Marquette, Butler, Creighton, Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, UAlbany, etc. in their subdivision). Thinking that the NIT would be this subdivision’s March Madness, NU Hoops would be back to where it was 75 years ago when this was the tournament it sought to be in."

Sure, I would be fine with that as well, but just when does this poster think NU will be able to compete with St Johns, Villanova, Gonzaga, St Mary's, Butler, Marquette and Creighton?

The last time NU went to post season was 7 years ago in the CIT and I believe they had to pay a $27,000 entry fee. Last year only nine teams were willing to enter that tournament and n February 2025, CollegeInsider.com announced a 2025 edition of the CIT would be contested between March 18 and 25, however, no participating teams were ever announced, and the schedule that had previously appeared on the website was rendered blank.

Niagara has a very uphill battle competing against the teams in the MAAC let alone fulfilling some vision illustrated by a very uninformed poster on the other board.

Niagara is in the Indy 500 on a tricycle. They would be better served playing schools at the D II level where they might achieve some success. We are now closing on two decades without an NCAA appearance and are collecting money to pay players when the money should be going to enhance the university both educationally and aesthetically.

Ages ago, and I mean ages ago when teams like Bona decided to make a commitment and enter into competitive conference where winning actually meant something, bot NU and Canisius SAT ON THEIR HANDS and DID NOTHING. They ended up in a conference like when you sweep your kitchen floor and the dust pan fills with different scraps that have nothing to do with each other. They ended up THEN like they sit TODAY, with schools that offer no fan appeal and not being able to compete in the upper echelon.

Somebody tell me one single solitary thing NU did to enhance it's D-I footprint. How about somebody on the other board who has all the answers. C'mon, I'm 72 now and have been watching NU basketball since I was six. Does anyone over there have a set big enough to school me?

Man up and bring it on. I dare you.

This is what happens when you become a millionaire and look down on people who aren't on your financial level.

I hear all the disappointment, yet I want to know if any of the commenters have money in the game.
I doubt if more than a handful contribute real $ to NU athletics.
Most are giving a 100 or two and think they can opine on our program. I and a few others give five figures every year and we don't make as much noise!
If I'm wrong, please let me know. You can do so here or through my email privately.
I'm paying a quarter to a half of a hockey players NIL if he stays for next year.
I'm an Elite BB supporter and Elite Edge of hockey before any NIL.
I'm on the NU NIL Collective Board and daily following where we go with legal decisions imminent.
I do this for my love for NU!
I'm retired for over ten years with no employment income.
I just had to say something!

This is the blowhard telling a poster that if he doesn't have big money invested, he is NOT entitled to a voice or an opinion...you will also see the response from a 30+ year season ticket holder...

jhart wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 9:19 pm

Pipes, let me be frank.
No you can't.
If you don't have an investment in the NU programs, you don't have a voice unless you are under 30!
That's my opinion!

RESPONSE...

Well, I guess my return is short-lived. I'm sure season ticket holder of over 30 years doesn't count. Attendance is dwindling every season, and student support is basically zero. I come back to discuss what I see and get told I shouldn't have an opinion. Who over there is actually promoting NU basketball? Can we get more than 900 people to a game?

I also like how you state all the contributions you make to NU basketball. Thank you. If I could, I would. They have had 2 winnings seasons in the last 12 years. Someone might want to switch some stuff up over there. How many guys are coming back this year? Is the collective returning the same ZERO players as last year?

He's a whale. That's what they call a big spender at the casino. They treat them like luxury, give them all the bling, free dinners, like they are royalty. And what do they get in return? They get a person in love with themself who thinks his shit doesn't stink as he walks around looking down at others who don't have his money. This is the perfect marker for NU. Absolute perfection! Feed the guys enormous ego, make him think the school closes without him and make him feel as though he sits higher than anyone else.

jhart is NU's whale.

jhart is not NU's whale. Sure, he gives a few grand here or but there are far larger people who support the program to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars, who you don't know about because they don't shoot their mouths off. If he's funding NIL so well or so he claims, why did the three best hockey players we have enter the portal yesterday? Perhaps if Robert Wegman wasn't put off by some hypocritical priests years ago, NU's financial situation would be much different today. My personal favorite...

"This originated with the idiot former adjunct professor who thinks he is still a 12 year old class clown. I spoke to our AD two days ago and he gave me no indication about this occurring. We had a very good conversation about the implications of NU being “in” on the House proposal."

"The Voy board has become an embarrassment to the university, its alumni and its friends. While I appreciate the effort of its moderator, It really needs to go away. Just a resting place for negative nellies who hate the university and rarely have anything good to say about it."

So that jerk was wrong once again. I was at NU for quite awhile. I left on my own volition to pursue a pragmatic position in the criminal justice system. And I have 100 x more love for Niagara than that guy.

Well quit chasing yourself off the board. This is a good place for you because mixing fun with the clown show on both boards is more entertaining than anything else going on on campus. When it gets down to heads of committees shaming fans who can't throw copious amounts of cash at them you can clearly see the problem. Millionaires don't fill the Gallagher Center and the pair of nuts this guy has to announce and I paraphrase that he doesn't have employment or has been off the grid for ten years as an attempt to explain his never ending donating despite this so called circumstance is really a humiliation to everyone and he should be ashamed of himself to almost plead poverty while still contributing to shame those who don't have his bank account...or portfolio. AD's have to put up with some real douche bags for the money.

Stick around Supe. I can't see NU digging the trench any deeper, but they won't get out of it.

Look, my wife and I love to be generous, and we give to worthy causes like St. Jude's , and others. But to give large amounts of money to Niagara University with its' track record is just money down the drain for me. I assume most of us on this forum live at least a "comfortable" lifestyle, and deservingly so. You know I NEVER once ate in the faculty dining room. I couldn't even tell you what it looks like. The kids use to say that they were getting nothing while the faculty feasted on "lobster and Lowenbrow" (exact quote). I was more comfortable around the kids than I was around fellow faculty. I hated the inside politics and all that associated crap.

The reason I posted the other day was because I came upon a Google announcement re: NU basketball's current state and thought you guys should know about it, no matter what.

I posted tonight because I believe that some reprobate referred to me as an "Adjunct Professor", which was incorrect; whilst also insulting me.

I can tell you that I never put myself above anyone. When I was teaching at Niagara, I constantly told my students to address me by my first name, as that was what I was most comfortable with. The only time I get on my high ass horse is when some one tries to demean my intelligence. That's the only time I flaunt what I have accomplished. I worked to hard and sacrificed too much to allow anyone to bring me down, intellectually.

I'm not trying to be wishy washy about staying on this forum. I am genuinely unhappy with what's going on with the NCAA, the courts, the NIL and the portal. I really believe that schools like NU have been so pigeon holed , that their seasons are determined to fail, ie, locked into losing seasons. Each season, one MAAC program will have the best of the worst recruiting year and win the Conference Tournament chamiponship and Dance. Niagara doesn't appear to be able to do this, and seems to be locked in to a losing season modality. This I can't take. There is just no joy in what has been determined by the current NCAA situation. Before all of this NCAA garbage, Niagara always had a fighters chance to have a winning season. It's almost like its' FREE WILL is gone, and what's left is , for all intents and purposes , DETERMINED !

Well, I think we all feel the same way. No need to run from the chat though. This banter is going on at most of the D-I forums because out of 360+ teams and most of them aren't going anywhere either. Niagara has about 250 in the same boat and the other 100 are poaching each others players. That's where the money kicks in.
