First we have a notable contributor scolding his fellow board readers for not contributing 5 figures to the NIL.
Secondly, another contributor wants legal action taken against Voy for allowing it's posters to voice their opinions and to relay rumors about the future of NU basketball. I might add that the Voy board is not affiliated in any way with the university, as is the other board.
Third, one of the posters is content with posting the following should NU drop down to a sub level of D-I like has been done with football:
"I’m fine with that as NU would still stay D1 but would compete for a championship against similar non-Power 4/Group of 5 majors (with the likes of St. John’s, Villanova, St. Bona, Marquette, Butler, Creighton, Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, UAlbany, etc. in their subdivision). Thinking that the NIT would be this subdivision’s March Madness, NU Hoops would be back to where it was 75 years ago when this was the tournament it sought to be in."
Sure, I would be fine with that as well, but just when does this poster think NU will be able to compete with St Johns, Villanova, Gonzaga, St Mary's, Butler, Marquette and Creighton?
The last time NU went to post season was 7 years ago in the CIT and I believe they had to pay a $27,000 entry fee. Last year only nine teams were willing to enter that tournament and n February 2025, CollegeInsider.com announced a 2025 edition of the CIT would be contested between March 18 and 25, however, no participating teams were ever announced, and the schedule that had previously appeared on the website was rendered blank.
Niagara has a very uphill battle competing against the teams in the MAAC let alone fulfilling some vision illustrated by a very uninformed poster on the other board.
Niagara is in the Indy 500 on a tricycle. They would be better served playing schools at the D II level where they might achieve some success. We are now closing on two decades without an NCAA appearance and are collecting money to pay players when the money should be going to enhance the university both educationally and aesthetically.
