As an example, Michigan State has a men's hockey team but does NOT have a women's program. This is true at numerous schools. Some have men's teams and others have dropped their women's programs, some will have a women's sport but no longer have a men's sport.

I believe colleges have to have a certain number of programs in both as required by the NCAA, but it doesn't have to be 50-50.
