Thats why I said ONE of the worst seasons in Niagara history. The worst , I believe, was back in the early 60's,(1961 or so) when the great Tom Lenney led NU to a 4-17 record. He averaged about 21 points ppg on an awful Purple Eagles' team. It was Lenney against the world back then. I think I was about 12 years old back then, but a staunch NU fan, whom, actually went to the games. I saw the likes of NYU and Miami, FL (with the great Rick Barry which at that time would play AT NU.
I was so excited to be a Niagara fan.

That 4-17 team was the 1964-65 Purple Eagles and was Taps Gallagher's first year as Niagara head coach..what a way to start !

1964-65 was Taps last year as Coach. He began his coaching career in the 30's.

Ah, OK, I read the list upside down...in that case, what a way to end your career!

Yes, Taps coached his last season back then. He coached those great Niagara teams in the 50s and before. He coached Costello, Bo Erias, Zeke Sinicola, Frank Leyden, Hubie Brown, Al Butler, Joe Maddrey and my friend Pat Sullivan , among others.
