The thing you have to have are the tools to compete and the three forces took the ability of teams like NU to be able to compete. It's not just money because only a small number are throwing out the big money, but look at how the program has been operated for the last 50 years, the amount of attention and effort put into it by the admin and the facilities themselves. Those tell you that the future looks bleak because NU has been a poor steward of their athletics programs for as long as I can remember.

When your within 10 teams from the bottom, you are doing about as bad a job as you possibly can. It's a race to the basement.

My whole take on this is why can't Niagara be competitive with the other schools in the MAAC? What does Siena and the other conference schools have that Niagara doesn't? And don't tell me money.

The number #1 reason is that their coaches (NU) can't recruit the talent the other coaches can. You can't win without talent, and that's where the "competitive" aspect has to start. Canisius is largely in the same boat. Poor facilities, location, lack of a community feel to the campus and a poor history of success, not only in one sport but most sports. Mostly though they can't get better players than the other guys can.

Chris Casey recruited well at Niagara (and of course so did JAM) so don't tell me it can't be done...it's just something Greg Paulus and his staff don't seem to have a knack for.
