anyway, here's a little background.

is run by a lady named raven2020, not by bill. raven is your fairly typical soccermom gone internet type of gal. she's always very polite, very conservative, smart, somewhat racist, somewhat naive, slightly narrow in view with a fuzzy focus. i tend to like her a lot. i've engaged her from time to time just to get the feel of her without being too caustic. Pzero has engaged her rather roughly (as Pzero is prone to do) and raven maintained a calm attitude and always responded reasonable, if not rationally.

are very well better established. raven happens to be a moderator on one of his boards and they have known each other a long time. raven plays favorites but she also plays fair. i doubt she would ban someone from her board just because they one-upped a friend but you can't be too sure.

anyway, as jd pointed out, bill *is* entrenched but he is also trapped. he has a pretty impressive forum where he has to post and maintain. he has a huge reputation and an ego to match. if memory serves, he also does some folksy style literary work for a couple of mags and newsletters (though i don't know the circulation size).

anyway, for the reasons i pointed out, he cannot run from a debate, at least not on his boards. he only has three options;

1) debate his opponent

2) sic his friends (of which he has many) on his opponent.

3) ban his opponent’s ip and/or handle.

i can deal with number one alone but alone i'd never get anywhere except in the very long term.

i can deal with number two by ignoring them but this is not always a good tactic since they too are people worth influencing. i can deal with number three currently a total of 12 times, as that is the number of IP proxies i have available. after that, i'd have to drum up some new ones and i really hate using them up anyway.

so, that's the lay of the land.
