[with a smile, she withdrew the ball she had been working with earlier, and demonstrated many times as she taught him one of the simpler tricks - how to make it look like something was tucked behind the other's ear, even though it wasn't. then she offered him the small ball, one of her most prized possessions, for a very short time under her supervision, to try the freshly taught trick - if he had use for it, she knew many who used coins instead, but as she had naught a coin to offer, the small ball had to suffice]
