Subject: Connecticut hunt with the GAFFER

Spent week before last with the GAFFER in CT. Was my first visit there - what a beautiful place!! Never knew there were so many trees.....and talk about loads of beautiful old homes.

First pic is my silver finds for the week. I'd hoped to find some really old coins - but it didn't work out that way.

I found the Merc's the first day there. We stopped at an old park on the way from the airport so I could check out the DFX in CT soil. Second dig I made was the '43 at about 4 1/2". Had some trash close to it. Found the '35 a few minutes later with GAF's XLT. The rest of the stuff was found over the course of the week. Found the '46 quarter on steep bank of a lake. At about 6 to 7" under a big root. The '58 was about the same depth but had an old pocketknife a couple inches above it. I dug the knife and that opened the way for the quarter.

The religious medal is my favorite find. I've found a bunch over the years but none as nice as this one. Was in a grove of trees in the middle of solid trash. Was really lucky to notice the high pitched silver tone among all the junk.

Many thanks to GAF and Ramona for their hospitality. It is really great to be able to visit MD'ing friends from the internet. HH to all! Bob
