Hi Mum,

Good to hear from you, I was about to put a message on the board calling you all slackers agin, but you've redeemed yourself. Well there's a lot to tell you, I guess I should start with the weekend away. Geoff & Jenny arrived after work on friday night and we had takeaway currys and sat up drinking wine and chatting till about 1am.... got up the next morning and when the rental car finally arrived, we set off for Birmingham. It turned out the game was actually in Stratford-upon-Avon, which is shakespeares town... we were going up on the saturday to see some sights before the game on sunday.... the weather wasn't great and I was getting worried about the game going ahead. On the way up we stumbled on the Warwick castle which was just out of Stratford. It was the attraction of the year last year apparently. At £11.50 it was pricey, but given its status we thought we'd have a nosey... Absolutely amazing.... 1000 year old castle, inhabited as recently as 1910. In perfect condition, the rooms were all kept immaculate from the victorian era... it was amazing, big dining hall and state rooms, amazing bedrooms all fully fitted out.... we spent three hours thgere but could have spent three days. There were also old dungeons and torture chambers, complete with all the horrible torture implements and things.... quite chilling to stand there and realise that 100's of people had died in these tiny rooms, and died horrible deaths... anyway, it was a great day. We then met Greg and ent to his place for more curry and drinks etc... had a great night and woke up the next morning possibly not in the greatest shape for a cricket game... thankfully kickoff wasn't till 1 pm so plenty of time to recover. Laura woke up at six, so after 4 hours sleep and losing scissors paper stone to Riki, I got up and took her for a drive.... we went to McDOnalds of course, anmd saw some of the sights of Birmingham....went back to the house about 8 and they were all still asleep (*Greg, Geoff & Jenny) so I woke up RIki and we went to Birmingham for coffee and a second breakfast. We got back to the house and all packed up for the game. Despite all the rain the previous night and first thing in the morning it was now brilliatly fine and we were looking forward to ea great day.. The ground was the most amazing ground I have seen.... the typical beautiful english cricket ground, surrounded by oak trees, outfield like carpet, sightscreens, the works. We arrived at 11.30 1.5 hours before the game, had calls from all the boys saying they were all on the way and looking forward to it. Greg got a call from the groundsman at about 12.10 to say he had called off the game because the ground was too wet and he had a First Class game there the following week.... huge arguments followed and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth, but it was all to no avail - the game was off and that was it, the groundsman had already called the opposition (Warwickshire Pilgrims) and informed them, so they weren't coming anyway.... so we sat ther waiting for all the boys so we could inform them that there 3 hour journeys were all in vain and the game was off.... everyone arrived and was suitably disappointed... the ost annoying thing was that we were standing around in 28 degree heat, perfect cricket weather and still couldn't play... The upside was that everyone bought their girlfriendsa and there were about 20 of us and a good atmosphere was hapening, so we decided to have a net session and then all go down to the river and have lunch on a boat. Had a great netb session, woth everyone batting and bowling. I managed to take possibly the best catch of my life, completely wasted in the nets, but will leave me hobbling for about 3 weeks after putting my back out... Bummer... After the net we all hooked up with the girls and went down to the AVon River for lunch -no restuarant - boat or otherwise could accomodate 20 people so we ended up at Pizza Hut, which was a great time. ALl went our separate ways after hat and got home about 9pm last night. All in all had a great weekend! Stratford is an amazing place... beautiful river, and loovely town that could keep you occupied for days if you had the time... got to know Geoff and Jenny heaps better and will spending alot more time with them I imagine.... also got to catch up with all the cricket boys who agreed we should have another shot at the game, so we're going for the 9th september... hopefully it all pans out, because there would not have been many people in the world more gutted than I was when it was called off...perhaps there were some people with real problems slightly more gutted, but not many.... ANyway, we did have a great time, and may all still happen....

Anyway, there's more to tell, RIki got that job, will write in the morning and tell you all about it.
CHeers

Mark
