Most people have a hard time accepting what is unfamiliar to them ... cognitive dissonance sets in. That is why Max Planck said that new ideas do not succeed because their proponents have convinced the opposition, but rather because the opposition has died and a new generation has grown up that is now familiar with the concept.

Wasn't that rather someones else's philosophy? However I think to make this an absolute is absolutely untenable.
