My God Brian is there no hope for those of us who are "a little wide around the waist?"

His supposed supernatural experiences and those of others he related in his Autobiography are all explained in the chaper on the Laws of Miracles. Do you believe that Jesus of Nazareth walked on water, fed thousands with 5 fish and loaves, healed the sick instanteously, raised the dead, cast out demons, turned water into wine and all the rest? If not, don't worry your in good company as his own disciple's, the 12, didn't believe their own eyes and ears either; hence his having to frequently speak in parables so they could comprehend, and then bluntly telling them it was for those, "with eyes to see, and ears to hear."

I do not adore Yogananda. I adore the radiance of Divinity that flowed through the body/mind called Yogananda. He never allowed anyone, through phony devotion and allegience to sway his high standards. Those who sought to be closer to him, he kept apart. His disciples tell us that he only wanted those who wanted God, and he wanted these to tune in to his help through meditation on God.

As for the scriptures. He plainly stated that his role in coming to America, as directed by his own guru, was to bring the ancient teachings of kriya yoga, and to interpret the original teachings of Christ and the original yoga of Krishna. So the fact that it doesn't follow those who claim understanding based upon their scholarship or divinity degree isn't surprising, his he said came from attunement with God.

What is wonderful, to me, about his teachings is the fact that it is up to the follower to apply the teachings. It is, in essence, an interior path; only limited by the "lack of spiritual adventureness" of the devotee. Many are satisifed by reading, some are satisifed by hearing, fewer still are satisfied by practicing, but the fewest of the few, by realizing.
