I havent seen any pics of her in SA. But if she looks anything like this, she can be a surprise.
I prefer her hair this shade though, and not that blond look.

...she does not look this good-additionally, given her huge frame I would have expected her to tone it up considerably but I am not even impressed with her body -anyways, we still have to see her in SS, but I am not impressed at all with how she looks in her outfits.

PR however, has been looking much better than expected-I would place her 4th in the region but if DR with her "deer in the headlights" look continues with that mess then I would place PR 3rd because she actually shows some personality in the photos...well at least more than DR.

...WELL SINCE NO ONE WANTS TO SAY IT, I WILL-WHEN YOU COMPARE GABBY'S PHOTO QUALITY TO THOSE FROM OTHER CONTESTANTS, IT IS OBVIOUS THEY SPENT QUITE A BIT MORE MONEY THAN GABBY! I DARE SAY GABBY'S PICS HAVE THE WORST LIGHTING OF ALL THE DELEGATE PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN BUT I AM NOT BOTHERED-OUR GIRL IS STILL ROCKING IT.

GABBY IF YOU READING THIS, TRY SNAPPING A PIC OF THE SKY TO ADJUST THE LIGHTING WHEN OUTSIDE BEFORE TAKING ADDITIONAL PICS-MAYBE THAT MIGHT HELP!
Anyways, Gabby's body is so on point. Very fit indeed! I am so impressed. She said today that she leaves for a Safari for about a week so I doubt they will have much access to internet although knowing the latina delegates they will find a way if it's possible...my gosh, the latin delegates are posting hi-resolution shots! Anyways, our girl is going to do fine. She has what it takes to go very far in the finals on the 13th Dec.

negative: makeup def. needs some work but i thought about something, most of the pics we've seen are from her camera. its obvious that she doesnt have a big fancy professional camera so that could be the cause of the "bad makeup" look. built in flash never flatters.
positive: Our girl is rocking with her wardrobe! the colours and styles really work for her. Her waist looks so small, almost like she's been wearing a corset on the down low all the time....lol. she is going to stand out like all the past ms. t&t's in other pageants and be known for being one of the best dressed! you go girl!

I think she looks beautiful. There is nothing wrong with her make up. You need to remember what may look good on a picture may not be the same when in person. And likewise what may not look good in a picture is what is needed to look good in person and in stage. You all have to remember this is a beauty pageant. I think she is styled right and her makep up in good too. I have seen some picture where you guys were saying she had on to much make up. But, that same picture from another angle and better lighting she looks great.

To PE&A cintune this wonderful work you are doing. I hope Gabby wins Miss World 2008!

Danielle in TOP 10 at Global Beauties LEADER BOARD -
http://www.globalbeauties.com/world/2008/w08_leaderboard.htm

She's definitely the woman of beauty and substance. beauty queen Danielle Kirsten Muriel Castaño, the country's official representative to the Miss World 2008 said that she hopes to be the first Miss World from the Philippines.

Castaño is off to Johannesburg, South Africa this coming Saturday, November 15 to compete in 57th Miss World Beauty Pageant, which will be held on December 13 at Sandton Convention Center.

Castaño, the beauty with a purpose, admitted that she really feels the pressure to bring the first Miss World crown in the country but promised that will give all her best to win in the said the prestigious competition."I think the pressure is wala pang naging Miss World from the Philippines and I would like to be the first Miss World from the Philippines," Castaño told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an interview during her send-off party at the Mandarin Suites at the Gateway Mall in Cubao. Castaño who will be competing against 106 other candidates from all over the world also shared her excitement to represent the country and proved that Filipinas soar high when it comes to beauty and substance."I'm so excited because I will be competing at Johannesburg in South Africa and I'm ready so I can't wait," she said.

The beauty queen said that as part of her preparations for the pageant she's been training a lot of things especially for the question and answer portion. She also undergoes training in catwalk skills and personality development with topnotch experts, she also learn how to put on her make up and other stuff she needs to as the official candidate to Miss World.

"Binibining Pilipinas was a training too when I was a candidate so I think that help too. And kahit na yung time (sa preparation) kasi pumasok ako sa school alam ko handa ako ito yung ginusto ko at nasa puso ko ang pag-compete abroad. I really want to be in this place," she said.

When asked on what she thinks will be the hardest part of the pageant, Castaño replied: "I think everything is difficult but with the help of other Binibining Pilipinas and with the help of people who are training me I would say that it's my pleasure and I'm just happy that they'd been helping me. Maybe I should not say it's difficult because I'd been working hard for this and this is what I want."

Castaño who was born abroad but raised here in the country said that she believes in destiny adding that she's destined to be in the upcoming pageant. She also shared that aside from her fellow countrymen her biggest inspiration for the pageant is her loving mother, the woman she considered as her hero and the wind beneath her wings.Castaño also said that her strongest point to win the pageant is that the fact that she doesn't give up."My strongest point is I don't give up and lagi akong palaban and dapat when I get there in competition I should always think positive which how I am right now and for the whole pageant as well," she told the news site.

The 19-year-old beauty was raised in the country's shoe capital -- Marikina City but currently residing in Quezon City. She's also an athlete and excels in volleyball and track and field. Being the eldest of three sisters, Castaño also holds a soft spot in her heart for sick and abused children. She said that she want to be remembered as someone who did something socially significant for the underprivileged.

'I love Janina'. Castaño made headlines when Binibining Pilipinas organizers announced that she will be replacing the controversial Janina San Miguel as the country's official representative to Miss World.During the interview, Castaño said that there's no pressure for her replacing the original Miss Philippines-World but she stressed that she hopes that San Miguel will find happiness wherever she maybe."I wish Janina all the best and just keep praying and I hope to see you soon and I love you," she said.

Castaño told the news site that she wasn't able to find time to meet and to talk to San Miguel. "Actually hindi ko pa siya nakakausap so hindi ko po alam," she said.It will be recalled that "Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) announced last September 29, that Ms. Janina San Miguel has resigned as official representative to the 2008 Miss World beauty pageant.San Miguel won the Binibining Pilipinas Ms. World despite having difficulty answering a judge's question in English.

Report said that the untimely demise of San Miguel's grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title."In accordance with BPCI rules and regulations, 1st Runner-Up Danielle Castaño will replace Ms. San Miguel as the official Philippine representative to the Ms. World 2008 pageant," Belle Baldoza, public relations officer of the Araneta Group said.

Castano who also looks like the beauty titlist-turned actress Riza Santos said that she's not yet determined if she will join the showbiz after the competition. Before the interview end, Castaño just appealed for the support and prayers of her fellow Filipinos as she competes for the 2008 Miss World."Thank you po sa lahat ng suporta niyo sa akin and prayers and I hope that I will bring home the bacon, well -- for sure I will bring home the bacon and I will just make everyone proud. Thank you so much," Castaño ended.

Gabby looks great and competitive. Im sure all of our delegates check out this board for support and feedback.so when someone gives a third eye opinion, i think both the delegate and the pageant company apply it once it is the best for our delegates. Case in point was that ill fitted orange Claudia Pegus dress Danielle wore at the Ms Universe prelims. Most posters on the board acknowledged that the colour was wrong and it did not fit right. behold that horrid creation was not worn on the finals. Thank God. So im sure the make up issue will be soughted out. I think we can critique but with tact. We need gabby to be confident and harping on a number of her negative features can give a strong blow to her ego. She does not need this now, we do not need this now. gabby if your reading your doing great already and please share how the hell you got your waist so tiny.

...don't like the make-up at all. Someone else commented on Pageantmania that they think she is using too much bronzer (or however you spell it-yes Ms Critique you could help me with the spelling). Yes Gabby is smiling in all the pics, but it looks very one note because of the make-up for me-it just throws the whole look off. I always liked her smile and I am sure with better lighting the bronzer would look better but ...as a few have commented...and I agree...with Gabby, she tends to look way better with less make-up at times. For the finals, I expect her to go all out with the make-up but for these candid shots maybe she should use less -she look fantastic when Zi Lin visited T&T so I am sure she knows how to work the make-up.

That being said, for me the best shot are always taken outdoors in the sun because the lighting is much better.

Mm yes I think the makeup is 1. very heavy (which i guess is normal for these things) and 2. the shade is just not working for her. yes maybe too much bronzer for real. She looks soo much better when she keeps it simple. Well I`ll wait to see more photos, hopefully it will get better. But her clothes are on point as usual though. I knew that wont be issue with her.

I believe that Gabbi is wearing too much make up. She really does look much better with less or a natural look her flawless face and skin isn't meant to be covered up like that who ever is doing her make up needs to told that come on. Any way all the best rock this pageant GABBI!!!!

You know i guess my problem is that in all those group shots thus far FOR ME, she isnt standing out the way I want her too.
I mean my eyes arent going straight to her. I wish there was more of a wow factor. ANd i know her height is one issue. On the runway she is very fierce...and can pull it off. But in the photos...hmmm

...of the delegates at all. Half of the photos floating around all the boards are from Gabby's FB page-Globalbeauties even posted a couple stating they did not know where they came from.

Anyways, I am not worried. Gabby knows what expectations everyone has for her and she can deliver. She needs to impress during the interviews and EG and SS segments. She has what it takes to place in the semis and to go far. Interview! Interview! Interview! Can't stress that enough.

On another note smurfguyl, are you by chance the one on Pageantmania posting negative comments repeatedly about Gabby? If you don't have anything good to say, then please say it only once if you must and balance it off with something positive. This is our girl. We have enough people who bash T&T every year, regardless of who we send. I don't understand all the sudden comment about how she looks-we have had enough untouched photos of her for you to know what she looks like. Yes the comment about the makeup was a critical one but we don't need to hear repeatedly how "unimpressive" and "ordinary" she looks. I am not worried-Gabby will do her best and I know she has what it takes to do well-it's up to the judges to decide if she is a good fit.

So ..LOL..let me get this straight.
Ive seen you guys post negative things about other girls..like Jamaica (trivial things such as the mole) or Venezuela (her nose..which ive also talked about). so thats okay...
but saying something negative about our girl is not okay?
I think it just all turns into this kind of patriotic/fanatic and sometimes true opinions are lost.
and im always supportive of our girls..so if she looks fab i will sing her praises(as ive been doing). and if she doesnt i will also say it

...THERE IS NO NEED TO GET DEFENSIVE. I don't know what nose issue you claim we "guys" (whoever apart from me you are referring to) had with Miss Venezuela-when last did I ever comment about that mole-oh yes, it was about a couple months ago and I said it was unattractive-you must still be visiting the Jamaica Star forum where her nose and mole are still an issue for some of her own supporters.

I never said to not post your thoughts-but at this time, when you know who looking to bash T&T all over the place, you come literally out of the starting blocks like a horse on Kentucky derby day with one NOTE on an international forum-"Gabby is not impressive." So Ms Critique, please, with all due respect, check yourself. To my knowledge, you don't know the difference between a critique and bashing-a critique needs to be based on truth and hopefully points out something that can be improved. If you are so concerned about Gabby's overall appearance and can't contain the overflow that is your opinion, then please try to keep most of those floodwaters in this forum where it is the T&T home base and not people from a various countries around the world.

No one appreciates this ONE NOTE mentality! It's like you only have tunnel vision with Gabby. You can't see others.

Im referring to you and your usual posse who got into all those childish squabbles with that idiot on miss. forum.
and dearest trini, i dont visit nor did i even know about that jamaican star forum. just look at all your past posts on miss. and you`ll remember what im talking about.
See the thing is I look past the sash...and some ppl dont.
for example i remember when you posted that pic of anya at the mall in vietnam in that short pants, i wrote how much i hated that trashy look. of course you almost bit my head off. now you are writing that you didnt like that outfit...blah blah wasnt appropriate etc. Why didnt you say that before? After she didnt make the cut you were like another person saying all kinds of things. a week before that she could do no wrong.
Just be honest sometimes thats all im saying. and ill continue to post my thoughts, because it doesnt concern me if it plese you or not

You have a habit of trying to dictate what should and shouldnt be said. fact is thats the point of a forum aint it? people wont agree all the time. you have your views, i have mine. maybe you dont agree with me, but dont try to label me as this or that...so maybe you are the one who should be doing the `checking`. dont be concerned about me

...I am a horrible person. I can never seen anything wrong with Gabby or any MT&T for that matter. YOU WIN EVERY ARGUMENT YOU WANT TO START WITH ME.

Hopefully, now you can stop making the sly comment, that serve nothing more than to irk me into an argument. I don't have time for that at all. Let's focus on supporting Gabby, and giving useful critiques that the pageant company can use-I am sure they along with Gabby have already seen the suggestions about her make-up and they will adjust as they think is best.

I did not know you held such disdane for Trini77. You always seemd to agree with him or most of his comments. You sond like a new person. Gabby dont look like a different person from when she left.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you all know I will be completing my Grad school tenure on the 26th Nov and I will be moving around for a while until I get a job so I will be off the forum from the 26th November for a while-at least a couple of months. Thank you to everyone who has made the experience on this forum an enjoyable one. C, Maximus, PB, Smurfguyl, WestIndian, Evaluator (and who ever I am forgetting)-big up to you all! Keep the support going.

To Peter Elias and Associates and Gabby-you all know I rooting for a win for Gabby on Dec 13th 2008. I am very proud of you all. Thanks for the fantastic representation.

Now back to business, since I only have a few more days left on the forum:
I will be starting a gallery of pics of Gabby at MW08 in the Pageantmania forum (follow the link:
http://pageant-mania.ephpbb.com/trinidad-tobago-f59/tt-at-miss-world-2008-johanesburg-south-africa-t904.htm#12747 ). Please, update the thread with photos of Gabby.

How to upload photos (at least how I do it on Pageantmania):
1. Go to www.imageshack.com
2. Choose the file and click the "upload" button
3. A new page loads--> Click "Show advanced linking" at the bottom of the page
4. Copy that link

The first photos of delegates for the MW pageant are actually from Gabby's FB page.

Now for our girl, I have to ask-why do her lips look so red and shiny? ...and yes I still think she looks a little tired from her long trip but it is good to see that she is up and about. I am very happy they are posing her personal photos online. We will be able to see more of her.

...looks on point-I love her in that black mini dress. I don't know how she will do in the beach beauty because we never know what they are looking for but I know she is going to rock the EG competition. I know that alot of you guys are upset and rightfully so. I hope that PE&A dont ever give up the franchise and continue with the wonderful work they are doing. If was not for the team of PE&A. I dont think T& would of experience the success they have for the last 5 years or so. The goverment needs to keep their word and do what they said they will do in supporting the delegates. They are going out there to represent their country and should be fully prepared.

Apart from this guys, This time belongs to Gabby. She has left to represent the country. Let the foucs be on her for the moment. She has worked so hard and deserves to be recognise for that. I hope she returns as Miss World 2008.

Yall know im Miss Critique, after really taking in the pics i gotta say i dont like her makeup. that shade of lipstick is no t very flattering. Hope this is not what it looks like in SA.
I actually think Gabby is more beautiful with a toned down, and almost-bare look. And she needs a nude lip...or at least something darker than this.
But she is still my MW. I think she is one the of the best MW reps we ever had

Venezuela Beauties Nip, Tuck Their Way to Miss World, Universe
By Adriana Brasileiro

Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Eva Ekvall says she was 17, a little overweight and dreaming of winning enough to buy a car when she entered her first beauty contest. Plastic surgery was the last thing on the young Venezuelan's mind.

Then she met Osmel Sousa, the Pygmalion of her country's beauty industry. Three months later, weighing 10 kilograms (22 pounds) less, her nose reshaped, and with breast implants, Ekvall was crowned Miss Venezuela.

``All of a sudden I was losing a lot of weight, so I needed boobs,'' said Ekvall, now 25, who went on to take third place in the 2001 Miss Universe contest. ``My nose looked bigger on my thinner face, so I needed a nose job,'' she said. ``Osmel just kept saying, `Oh, don't worry, we can fix this and that. Everything will be fine.'''

Venezuela has won more major international beauty competitions than any other nation. Much of the South American country's success can be attributed to Sousa's skills in preparing contestants, from how to walk, smile and talk, to choosing cosmetic surgeries.

Cuban-born Sousa, 60, who has run the Miss Venezuela franchise since 1981, is responsible for most of the country's five Miss Universe, five Miss World and five Miss International titles. He openly encourages surgery.

``This isn't a nature contest,'' Sousa said in an interview as contestants in swimsuits and high heels practiced choreography for the 2008 Miss Venezuela pageant, which took place in Caracas on Sept. 10. ``It's a beauty contest, and science exists to help perfect beauty. There is nothing wrong with that.''

Plastic, Dental Surgeons

Owned by TV station Venevision, the Miss Venezuela Organization numbers a plastic surgeon and a dental surgeon among its full-time employees. Dayana Mendoza, the reigning Miss Universe, is one of Sousa's protegees.

``Venezuela has been able to create a production line of beauty queens like no other country,'' said Ines Ligron, director of Miss Universe Japan, in a telephone interview from Tokyo. ``Nothing is improvised in Miss Venezuela; everything is calculated. The girls are sculpted and rigidly trained.''

Arthur Caplan, director of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Bioethics questions Sousa's endorsement of aesthetic surgery.

``No surgeon can say that giving breast implants to a 17-, 18-year-old for beauty reasons is ethical,'' Caplan said by phone from Philadelphia. ``It's terrible that these pageants are turning into plastic surgery competitions and are no longer about real beauty.''

Surgery Not Banned

Surgical enhancement is permitted and is common among contestants, said Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, a joint venture between billionaire real estate developer Donald Trump and NBC Universal Inc.

``We don't encourage it, but we don't prohibit it either,'' Shugart said by phone from New York. ``Miss Universe in the 21st century wants to be a reflection of the world we live in, so we really don't have a problem with contestants that had some kind of procedure done.''

Sousa, who calls the enhancements ``touchups,'' runs a program to groom contestants. To get there, candidates need to catch the eye of Sousa or one of his scouts at the hundreds of fashion shows and beauty pageants they attend annually.

Around March each year, 300 young women head for Quinta Miss Venezuela, a salmon-pink villa with white iron gates where Sousa runs his boot camp. There, they come under the scrutiny of Sousa, his assistant Gabriel Ramos, dental surgeon Moises Kaswan and plastic surgeon Peter Romer. The three comment on the aspirants' flaws and suggest what can be done to create a winner.

Soft Voice

Fair-haired and blue-eyed, Sousa speaks with a soft voice.

``You are chubby and your nose is crooked,'' he said in a meeting with a Quinta Miss Venezuela candidate last year, which was recorded on video. ``And your teeth -- Ugh! We need to do something.''

About 60 are selected to undergo training. It lasts from three to six months at the villa in Colinas de Los Caobos, the Caracas neighborhood where Venevision's studios and headquarters are also located.

As well as surgery and weight-loss programs, the organization provides coaching in modeling, runway presentation, dancing and English. It pays all expenses, and in return receives 20 percent of any eventual winner's earnings during her reign.

`A Rare Artist'

``Osmel is a rare artist,'' said Mendoza, 22, whose prizes for winning the Miss Universe title included a $30,000 tiara with diamonds and pearls, and an apartment on Park Avenue in New York plus living expenses during her yearlong reign. ``He transformed my life.''

Mendoza also received a two-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy's acting or filmmaking programs, a full wardrobe and shoe collection and a personal stylist. The prizes are worth $500,000, according to the Miss Universe Organization, which employs the titleholder during her reign.

Mendoza started working as a model at age 15 and left a job with Elite Model Management in Milan to participate in Miss Venezuela and then Miss Universe. She neither confirms nor denies having had plastic surgery, saying people should do what makes them feel good.

Daniel Slobodianik, the Miss Venezuela surgeon for three years until 2007, says he operated on Mendoza, enlarging her breasts, reshaping the tip of her nose and removing excess fat around her knees with liposuction.

Concept of Beauty

``Yes, I did Dayana and so many others that I can't even remember,'' he said at his clinic in the upscale Santa Paula neighborhood of Caracas, while four young women flipped through fashion magazines in the waiting room.

Sousa's concept of beauty could be seen in the similar upturned noses of most of the 28 contestants at September's Miss Venezuela pageant.

``I've had an idea of the perfect woman in mind since I was a boy, and later on, working in advertising, I drew that woman over and over again for my clients,'' Sousa said as he sketched a female face on a sheet of paper.

Beauty contests are part of Venezuela's culture, and its success is a source of national pride, Slobodianik said. Each year, thousands of beauty pageants take place around the country, some in prisons, schools and army barracks.

Goal in Life

Girls in Venezuela grow up thinking that being beautiful is the most important goal in life, and are disappointed when they realize they don't fit their country's aesthetic ideal, says Xiomara Rivero, a 32-year-old manicurist.

``This is the worst place in the world to be ugly,'' said Rivero, who works in one of the hundreds of beauty salons in Caracas's Las Mercedes neighborhood.

Outside the Caracas stadium where the 2008 Miss Venezuela show was being rehearsed, Denise Trujillo, 18, tried to persuade security guards to let her through the glass doors.

Tottering on 10-centimeter (4-inch) heels, the tall, slim, brown-eyed brunette said she wanted to hand photos of herself to Sousa.

``I know I have potential, I have what Osmel wants,'' said Trujillo, who works as a waitress. ``I may need a few touchups, but he will help me.''

I cant believe Im saying this, but I think Peter should just give up the franchises. Its just too much for one person to handle. Why, in 2008, after 2 MU, 1 MU, several finalists and semi-finalists AND hosting MU is this man still on the radio..and chasing down officials, BEGGING for money.
Its just wrong.
If they dont recognize what a showing at these pageants can do for our country then so be it.
He has done his best, he has made his mark. But I find it utterly shameful its still coming down to this.

They must want Peter and his group to give it up so they could put a friend. Then you would see the amount of money they giving out, of which half going in the friend's pocket and the rep getting the sh..ty end of the stick.
Trini 77 cool down nah boi! It is very sickening but doh stoop to that level.

I wish the T&T government would place more emphasis on prommoting the country rather than promoting themselves. It`s a shame so much potential and no one willing to let it be untapped. Well save for a few. The only time they apperntly get involved is when there is an actual win. Sucks Good Luck Gabby I know you will make every Trinidadian proud.

Miss World $$ woes
Elias seeking $300,000 more for T&T rep
Kristy Ramnarine kramnarine@trinidadexpress.com

Miss World T&T Gabrielle Walcott will leave for South Africa today to prepare for the 2008 Miss World competition, although the Trinidad and Tobago Pageant Company is still short by approximately $300,000 to cover her expenses.

Pageant Company director Peter Elias told the Express yesterday that he had no choice but to make alternative arrangements after the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs failed to uphold its promise of assisting Walcott for the event.

He said it costs between $350,000 to $400,000 to prepare one delegate for a competition. Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, Marlene Mc Donald, he added, had assured her support to them earlier this year.

"I met with the minister in May at a dinner which was attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Earl Nesbitt, Brian Lara, reigning Miss World Zi Ling Zhang and former Miss World Giselle La Ronde West and others. The minister gave her assurance of support," Elias said.

"Tell me what does that mean? We didn't go to Miss Universe in 2007 and the only reason I'm back in it is because I was promised support."

Walcott was crowned Miss Trinidad and Tobago World in February at the Zen nightclub in Port of Spain. Anya Ayoung-Chee was also crowned Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe at the same pageant, and went on to compete at the Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam.

The Miss World 2008 event was supposed to take place in Kiev, Ukraine, in November. However, the pageant was rescheduled to December 13 with South African as the new venue.

Elias said he had in fact received two payments from the ministry since Mc Donald's promise, but this was used to fund the competition expenses of two former pageant delegates-Valene Maharaj and Ayoung Chee-and the early preparation of Walcott.

"We received a payment of $100,000 in June, one day before our delegate (Ayoung Chee) left to compete and we received a second payment of $100,000 in late August," he said.

"Since February, I've been calling to find about the rest of the money but we are not getting any correspondence or information from the ministry. After not being able to get money from the ministry we approached the Sports and Culture Fund of the Office of the Prime Minister and we received $280,000 in July."

A frustrated Elias, who has been in this position before, added: "I was asked if the ministry trusts me. I have every bill from this year and from past years of working on the pageant.

"I'm not doing this for me. It's about promoting the country. If this type of promotion is not important to Trinidad and Tobago let the team know. With that type of money the return of this investment could be a windfall, in other words if we do well it could be a jackpot."

What an assinine move by Ms. Mc Donald. It is amazing how beggarly and cheap the T&T government is. The exposure that Peter Elias and Associates have given brand T&T is phenomenal since their inception. They litterally are spending pennies considering the international exposure T&T is getting.

I guess we will be a no show at MU08. Pete, Adrian and Alyson, I backin' yuh all de way. I pray that you guys don't give up the franchises because we will be in a mess if that happens.

As one of my European friends said "the worst government are run by black people"-Thank you Ms. Mc Donald for proving me wrong when I disagreed with this statement. I guess when you have been living in the gutter with gutter mentality and gutter standards-even the muck and grime looks normal even if you get a Government post.

I can't believe how low she is. She is garbage to me-whoever wants to get upset with me, go right ahead. I am fed up with these a$shol#s running everything into the ground. What the f*ck are we paying taxes for-oh yes, for Manning to live in a mansion, fly around in a private jet and spend millions to drive non-T&T nationals around the da*b place-Talk about jack a$ses to the max. I guess Mc Donald spent the da*b money on Mc Donalds-I wish she would get her fat a#$ off her neverending lunch break and start doing her job. I am freakin' mad at how she loves to treat PE&A and our representative like garbage when her overweight, cholesterol-laden a$# doing nothing to improve the image of the country.
As usual though, they will all line up to take pictures with MU or MW when we win and act like she was our rep's closest friend. I truly hope she reaps what she sows-What a complete havoc of a monstrosity she is-dam# liar. They should fire her trifling as#!

Well its typical...not surprising at all so why even get your blood pressure up.
thats the way they move- pageants, sports you name it.
success- then they jump of the bandwagon, plan cheesy welcomes at the airport and put on their best suits for a photo-op.
And its so sad that T & T has been so successful in the past, even hosted a MU and we are still in this situation. Its messy, very very messy and I`m sure very discouraging for Peter. Maybe he should forget about the government and find other ways to raise money in the future.
I think of the system in Venezuela, and how these girls dont have to worry about a thing.
But I know everything will work itself our smoothly. think positively...
you sure that some harsh words for the minister.

How could they do this to PE&A again. The team has worked so hard to promte T&T internationally. This is such a shame. What a disgrace!. I did not believe we would of been back at this again so soon. it seems only when someone does good you see some kind of support, but not for very long either. its just been a year since Valene's great showing at Miss World. PE&A have done extraordinary well. it will be such a let down if they cant continue doing the wonderful job they have done for so long. Why dont the goverment keep their word and do what they said they will do. I also hope Gabby wins the zmiss World crown and ask them why was it so hard to give her the help she needed. The help they promised!

...if the CCN group, which has so much resources and money had to relinquish the MT&TUniverse franchise because they were losing money running it what the hel# could Peter do that he has not done already-really what? With all due respcect, who he have to fu#k? Really, with that fat, lazy-ass, lying bi$#h running things in that ministry it a shock they could do anything right. Remember what they did for MU2007, they announced to the public that funding would be provided for MU2007 about a month and a half before the pageant kick off but it was only when delegates start departing for Mexico they finally contacted PE&A to talk about support. I am fed up with this level of mediocrity, small-mindedness and third-world mentality in T&T. They should fire her as%. What a consumate bit$h! I am sorry, any respect that I had for that office is gone. It would be better if dog and cat were in government because they have more sense.

Peter Elias and Associates, you know we love your entire team. If you decide to relinquish both franchises I support the move. I want to see who as# could step up and hold on the either franchise for more than 3 years? If CCN could not do it then who the fu#k going to do it? I guarantee you within 5 years it will be back in the hands of PE&A. Dump the franchises and let everyone know that fat-as# Mc Donald, who big like a fast-food outlet her dam# self, f*ck it up.

I'm in shock... Wow..

Trini77, I understand how frustrating this is.

We cant even say to Peter to seek assistance from the private sector b/c they did that and no one wanted to help.. My god. I thought funding would have continued.

I hope this matter is resolved asap even if the honourable Prime Minister has to step in as in some cases...

...I have been a pageant fan for too long keeping my mouth shut. Yes people are think it is petty to call Mc Donald names but I don't think we are dealing with an adult-must be a small child with no sense of right and wrong. I wholeheartedly believe that if Peter Elias cannot be given a legally binding written and notarized pledge of funding for "X" number of years they should dump both franchises immediately.

It is very easy for anyone to come on this board and say "hopefully things work out." I am sorry, but maybe I am the only one who recalls Peter's interview a couple years back where he sounded totally off the wall -it was so frustating that I think he was losing his mind. Really, nobody realizes how much work these people do and they always go beyond what is expected of them as franchise holders because they genuinely love what they are doing and want to see T&T shine on an international stage.

For me, talking time is over. Peter Elias has too much class, intergity and dignity to be treated like garbage. DUMP THE FRANCHISES PETE!

SINCE SHE WANTS ATTENTION LETS GIVE IT TO THIS MAC-TRUCK, I MEAN MARLENE.

WHY DOES SHE HATE PETER ELIAS:
1. He works with little resources and somehow accomplishes much with it; the only "little" think in Marlene's life is the time she spends doing her job
2. He keep receipts, records, and has a set plan; she says what she wants and does what she wants whenever she feels like it, without any sense of responsibility and accountability.
3. Peter Elias has integrity; the T&T hater Marlend obviously does not.
4. Peter Elias only permits fit women to enter MT&T; Marlene is as big as the entire Magnificent Seven
5. Peter Elias is white; Marlene is black and loves to see a white man beg.

I know everyone must be in shock but really, what does Ms T&T hater have to say for herself. I hope people start to say something to her stupid a*s. I don't care if funding arrives tommorrow-this nonsense should have never happened. THEY NEED TO FIRE MARLENE Mc DONALD-SHE IS A BLATANT LIAR AND DOES NOT HAVE THE NATIONAL INTEREST AT HEART. SHE IS JUST A POWER HUNGRY FREAK THAT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO ACT LIKE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON IN AUTHORITY. THEY NEED TO FIRE HER PRONTO. SHE HAS NO INTEGRITY AND HONOR AND HAS BROUGHT HER OFFICE INTO DISREPUTE. STOP INSTITUTIONALIZING DISHONESTY AS IF IT IS A VIRTUE TO BE PRESERVED. WE HAVE TOO MANY LAZY POLITICIANS IN T&T AND SHE IS JUST A FINE EXAMPLE OF THAT.

Its a bad situation Trini, agreed. But calm down. I think its all getting to be a bit much...and childish.Sure I think its quite lame what this excuse of a ministry is doing, but go easy with the name calling and bashing. at the end of the day ( i remember you mentioned this a few months ago about miss tnt delegates who come to this board and read the messages) the dear minister is someones wife, mother etc.
At the end of the day Peter has a choice. Either continue, or dont.

I know that I have said I always get nervous when I hear Meiling is designing a pageant gown but I have to say that this piece from her 2006 collection would be fit for any beauty pageant stage provided the lady wearing it is around 6 ft tall. Love the fluidity of the fabric and the perfect blend of modern and romantic/classic elements.

kinda reminds me of the gown oxana wore. I like the gown but i wont put it on a miss t&t, it can get get lost very easily in the sea of white gowns that are ever present in pageants. i wish Rhianna had gone though, she would have definitely made a bigger splash than nasma. btw what ever happened to kelly bute?

Pics during the 2 Miss Ukraine pagants she participated in in 2008:

These pics are just to ensure that we do not get tunnel vision. Ukraine is the one to beat but we finally have a MT&T who facially could win and who also seems to have the overall persona and right looks to be a wonderful MW winner. However, Ukraine looks almost unstoppable. Gabby needs to nail all her interviews big-time in order to win and she better be flawless onstage because as we can all see Miss Ukraine is going to SA looking for a win. Interview! Interview! Interview! I can't stress that enough for Gabby-this is where she can seal her fate for the MW title.

...a little birdie told me that the opening outfits for MW08 are being done by a pageant outfit with whom Mrs. Morley is good friends with. It will be interesting to see if it is true-if it is then their short but cute rep is in and T&T and Bahamas will have their work cut out to make the semis.

PB, yuh eh easy yuh know. Anyways, if it turns out to be true then Brit is guranteed one of the 10 places based on "merit" -So that leaves nine for the other 100+ delegates to compete for. On merit though, DR, Bahamas and T&T look like they are top 15 worthy and Martinique looks promising but I have to see more.

Over on the Jamaican Star forum, someone who apparently is at least in the know, is predicting a top 5 for Brit after the "Jamaican inspired and designed OPENING NUMBER." I know Bob Marley is popular in SA. As I have said before, T&T and Bahamas have their work cut out. In my opinion, Jamaica is going to be a top 15 semi-finalist based on the fact they are doing all the opening outfits and 2 of their supporters are on the judging panel.

Jamaica is officially top 20 in BB and a top 15 semi-finalist. Info posted on the Pageantmania forum from someone currently residing in Jamaica is that the opening outfits for MW are being designed by Jamaican outfit Uzuri (or however you spell it) who have been the designers for MJW for years, and who have just acquired the Miss Jamaica franchise. Suddenly, Brit is in top 5 contention. Pray for Gabby folks! -we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors when the judges debate among themselves who should be the regional winner-that's the reality of the situation.

No surprises at the top; overall this is how the pre-arrival bets are:
1. Ukraine (firmly the outright fav)
2. Spain
3. Ecuador
4. Mexico
5. Trinidad and Tobago
6. Dominican Republic
Strangely, this is my exact list of the six women who I feel based on pre-arrival pics are the ones who can realistically win Miss World.

Also, I am elated to see that Bahamas is among the top 15 bets. I can't wait to see how Martinique looks in SA. These are my top 4 Carribbean pics: T&T, DR, Bahamas and Martinique. If rumors are true about who is designing the opening outfits for MW08 then I expect another C'bean nation to place.

I know it was too good to be true-I don't have Mexico as my top 6 pics (she is 7th)-Russia is in 5th and Gabby is in 4th on my personal list. I hope she is working her tail off and praying just as much. DR seems to be the overall fav among pageant fans but I think Gabby has what it takes to top the region and the crown is within her reach.

ON ANOTHER MORE SOMBER NOTE-EVERY YEAR SINCE PE&A HAVE BECOME A REALITY (SINCE 2003) THEY HAVE HAD AT LEAST ONE PLACEMENT AT A MAJOR INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY PAGEANT-THE BALL IS NOW IN GABBY'S COURT. I HOPE SHE WINS. SHE SEEMS LIKE A GREAT FIT FOR THE MISS WORLD ORGANIZATION.

Hey folks, so in leaving the Missosology forum I posted today the theread "Please delete my account on November 3rd 2008" and to my suprise it was totally deleted. Lucking I saved a copy so for people who wanted to know why I left, here it is... (Please note "Phenom" is a Trini poster)

"Thank you to everyone who has visited the MT&T section of the forum. I had a blast supporting my delegates on the forum. However, as time has progressed, it is apparent that my presence on this forum is no longer a positive experience. I am leaving the forum on Nov. 3rd 2008, so I just wanted to say goodbye and let you all know my reasons. Firstly, I am fed up with having to "defend" my delegates, my compatriots and myself-really, I thought this forum was for us to get together to talk about what we love but it takes too much energy to be here. Secondly, we all know Mario is the instigator but he is never put in check. In fact, blame is always put on the people he is terrorizing. Hence, this charged, biased, vindictive air is allowed to continue. Thirdly, the moderators are biased but I guess if you are not from Trinidad and Tobago and Bahamas, you probably have no idea what I am talking about. Lastly, I had the mistaken notion that Ricardo, who was exposed as MU100BC, had learned from his experience. However, after a recent post on this forum in which Mr. Bhunjun clearly states that Phenom and myself instigated this who affair-it is apparent to me that trying to be a normal, sane, person on this forum is impossible if you are educated and accustomed to a certain level of maturity (and I adjure you to not make this previous statement an issue-yes it's a strong statement but if you can avoid getting emotional you can at least appreciate the truth in what I said). My post history on this forum is testament to myself that I never instigated any attack on Mario-in fact, it will show that over time, it is Mario's attacks (call it what you want) basically forced me to stand up for myself. As expected, the moderators sided with their friend Mario and posts where edited as Mario saw fit. It is only lately I decided to take the advice of a former professor who said that when dealing with a fool you need to speak to him in the language he understands. Again, blame was placed on the Trini posters for what transpired thereafterwards. I can no longer continue in good conscience on this forum because Mario is like a poison-I don't know how to be angry or hate someone/a country continuously-it just does not make sense. Additionally, the fact that Ricardo can condone such behavior by Mario, tells me he has not changed for the better either. I don't appreciate any dark skinned delegate from my country being referred to as "sh*t" on the forum, and pretty much know what word he must used when speaking about her. Mario has used racist and prejudiced words on the forum and continues to do so when he want to with an expected "I'm sorry" when he is called on it yet he reverts back to the same behavior constantly. I can't see how Ricardo defended him and then blamed Phenom and I for the entire animosity on the forum.

Please delete my account on Novermber 3rd. I am in the process of posting some of my previous pics on another forum. I would hope that you all could afford me a few days to complete that process. My decision is not up for discussion. In closing, I would like to thank all the people who contributed to the T&T threads. I really appreciated it. The forum has a fantastic lay out thanks to Ricardo's hard work but in my opinion too many immature, biased people are in control of the forum. I hope you can appreciate my candor at the very least. All the best to you all!"

I have been permanently banned from Missosology because I was "trying to tarnish the name of the forum." I wish they would just delete the account though but I guess they don't want to make it obvious and of course I spent a good amount of time and energy building up the T&T section of that forum. I would be happy if they deleted it though-I don't want a shred of T&T on that forum.

What the heck did you do? I guess they cleaning house with all the Trinis. You know after the MU1000BC fiasco, I still gave them a chance thinking they would change but these people are just stuck in their ways. They are so unprofessional. I sincerely hope Peter Elias and Assoicated stop all contact with these people-and no I am not talking out of emotion-really, these people cannot act like clear-thinking adults. I gave them a chance to grow and what did they do with it? I don't care if we never see a Trini in their hot picks again-we always have to fight to get the attention we deserve and that will always be the case. We don't need Missosology to market our girls. Gabby is the perfect example-we finally give them the type of beauty their small minds could appreciate and they still have issues with how the lady rocks-I suggest changing her sash to another country's and you just have to watch those negative comments disappear. Really these people are sick. We are too educated and mature for that forum-they will never be comfortable with us there. Period!

You did the right thing! Last year Mario either called Miss TnT a C...... or said it have plenty of C.... in Trinidad. When I posted that the C word is just as bad as the N word my thread was deleted and no one told Mario to apologized. As you said you don't need to promote TnT on that forum.

The joy of Motherhood
By Lorraine Waldropt

Saturday, November 1st 2008

Kenisha Thom-Selvon and her husband Corey Selvon pose with their daughter Saamantha. PHOTOS: DEXTER PHILIP

Just recently former Miss Trinidad and Tobago Kenisha Thom-Selvon added another crown to her collection.

This one was different though, nothing like the others.

Representing one's country internationally was the epitome of patriotic pride, a childhood dream come true. And, being a finalist in the top five of the Miss World 2004 and placing in the top seven in the Miss Universe Competition in 2006 definitely put the icing on the cake for the Tobago-born Thom.

But nothing, she says, beats the ultimate prize of becoming a mother.

A year and ahlf ago, she felt nothing could compare to the bliss she felt on becoming Mrs. Selvon a year and half ago, marying Corey Selvon.

But all these moments pale in comparison to the joys of motherhood.

At her HGTV- nspired designer home in St. Augustine,Thom says words cannot describe her emotions when she first set her eyes on her precious Saamantha.

"Honestly, I was tired at first, labour pains still overcame me. But when I held her for the first time there was this flood of emotions- something difficult to explain happened inside my head. Just saying I was happy or satisfied pays no justice to how I felt, it was much more," she says,misty-eyed and clearly still experiencing the baby bliss of a new mom.

Thom had a difficult pregnancy - to the point of complete bed rest in her final trimester and she gives thanks and credit to her husband, mother and other family and friends for their support and who helped make the journey a bit smoother.

"Without my Mom, other family and friends this phase would have been unthinkable. I didn't know this thing (childbirth and pregnancy) was so hard but I'm glad for where it has brought me. Saamantha is my gift from God. "She was worth it all. Now I understand the pain that mothers, who agree to adoption prior to birth experience, feel when their babies are born. It's hard to separate yourself from a part of you, especially when you hear the first cry," she says.

And nothing compares to the reality of pregnancy, and nothing prepraes you for it, not the picture painted by friends, not books or Lamaze classes, she also says.

Now, with a new baby on board, life has certainly changed for the 25-year-old WASA employee.

As she cooed and cuddled her bundle of joy, she says breastfeeding is a priority for her, and a duty she intends to carry out for at least a year.Â

And a feisty four month-old,Saamantha, now at the grabbing and reaching stage, keeps Thom on her feet, but happy.

"Caring for her can be hectic but it's so rewarding. It's like mission accomplished, I always wished for a family of my own and now I have one - I feel so fulfilled. The joy I felt from Ms. World was different. Seeing my daughter's cute smile and anticipating her first tooth, her first step is so exciting," she says.

With a full plate of responsibilities now - mother, wife, Accounting Clerk at WASA, student at the University of the West Indies and an aspiring ACCA certified accountant - life is busy and rewarding for the former T&T Queen.

"When I return to work after maternity leave, I know that it will be life on the fast lane but I know that I can succeed with my determination, faith in God and my supporting cast. My friends at WASA; Karen, Estella, Donna and Mr. Grimes to name a few would definitely be at my side and that coupled with my eager mother-in-law turned babysitter makes me feel optimistic," she says.

But while some things have changed drastically, some facets of Thom's personality have remained the same. She is still the stately stylish woman T&T screamed for at the Ms. World Pageant, though a few pounds heavier.

Dressed in a black mid-thigh linen skirt, red blouse and black bolero jacket, matching makeup and gold bracelets,Thom remains as fashionable as ever.

"I grew up with three brothers so I was always a girl-next-door however I embrace my feminity fully. Dressing up and wearing stylish clothing is something natural for me, it's just who I am," she says.

Thom said she intends to hit the gym pretty soon and adhere to a home-cooked healthy diet. And here Thom reveeals another surprise on her already busy place.

"I always wanted to start my own business and since I am into healthy eating, Corey and I are starting a new restaurant in a few weeks time which promotes healthy recipes," she says.
END ARTICLE

Kenisha, for me, will always be the best example of what a MT&T should be. She set the standard that all future MT&Ts have to follow.

...it was long overdue. I will start a tread with pics of Gabby in SA when the competition starts but I will probably disappear totally from that forum around the 26th Nov. I will be moving around quite a bit so internet access will be limited. I hope you guys will please post pics in the thread because I am expecting great things from Gabby for the Miss World 2008 final.

If we are going to have screenings next year then I think Makeda O'Neil should re-enter. She could make a great MT&T provided she get's over her stage fright that was quite obvious from the Mag7 2008 edition.

Yes Trini77, she looks really beautiful here. her stomach looks so flat. Looks like she has been hitting the gym. Could it be she is indeed going to MU next year?. I think she has a great chance of a top 10 at least. I hope that her communications skills have improved.

...I never thought it was a lack of intelligence but a horrendous amount of stage fright. She has done 2 pretty long interview with newspapers and one of them was on the day she screened and she sounded well-read and intelligent. However, she got on stage and like she could not think straight for the MT&T 2008 final.

...CHECK THE DAM* ATTITUDE AT THE DOOR PLEASE. THIS, "LET ME JUST TURN UP ON THE FORUM AND ACT LIKE I KNOW MORE THAN EVERYONE ELSE", IS CERTAINLY NOT APPRECIATED BY ANYONE WITH A BRAIN AND MANNERS ON THIS BOARD. Please show a bit more respect. We don't know who it was but she looked quite a bit like Makeda, hence the mistake. Give us the name instead of acting so condescendingly.

I am sorry if I come across as very harsh, but I have been on this board for years, and that includes about 6 months where I was the lone poster on here keeping the board alive and updated. As expected, as an international pageant is approaching, some "fans" suddenly appear on the board and have been know to act like a%$holes towards the very few stalwarts on this forum. I can't stand that nonsense anymore. If they want to behave like an a$s then by all means I will talk to them like one.

i agree with you smurgyrl, her speech is kind of annoying too. She really needs to change her tone of voice I think. In regards to her look. if she gets that body into shape, lose a few pounds. She can do good. But, like this. I dont see her representing T&T any time soon.

...but as I said before, we could do better. Even Cennette (I hope that's her name-the girl who I said had the Maggie vibe) is better, even though I agree that her face is her weak-point. For me, it is apparent that MT&TW/U09 will both be crowned next year so I hope we get someone with some pageant experience-the only available possibility is Makeda because since Sept. Valene disappeared off the radar so I assume she is at college. I know PE&A will have to over-hall her entire look and definitely add hair extensions and I am pretty sure the body and look will be on-point for MU (if she did become MU09) but Makeda's MAJOR PROBLEM at the 2008 edition of Mag 7 was that she was like a dear staring at the headlights in the black of night. She is very intelligent but has horrendous stage fright in my opinion when it comes to on-stage interviews. It is interesting that I had said she was another "Danielle Jones" when she was selected as a top 7 finalist-because as it turned out her failure to advance any further was hampered by her answer onstage (which was Dani's downfall at MU2004). I know alot of people view poor answer as a lack of intelligence but I think we can all agree that Danielle Jones had "plenty brains" and yet she gave the most assinine answer by a MT&T that I have yet to see paralleled on an international stage. If Dani had nailed it I thought she would have been MU or at the very least top 3.

I guess the big question that will be answered next year is whether Peter Elias and Associates have already identified a strong contender already for MT&TU that no one knows about. Valene was the last invitee that we know about and she was phenomenal. I did not get the impression this time around that any of the 7 ladies who made the finals of MT&T08 had been encouraged/invited to screen by anyone on the MT&T committee. This is a very dangerous positionn to take in my opinion but then at the same time I have to admit that there has always been at least one very strong delegate at every MT&TU edition since 1995.
1995-Arlene & Michelle
1996-no pageant-Michelle from previous year rep. us.
1997-Margot
1998-the best slate of candidates for MT&TU/W up to that point ever-Wendy, both Miss Photogenics and the lady who placed 3rd overall. Wendy and the two Miss Photogenics were all top 10 MU material and that was the best delegate for East Indian descent to ever grace a MT&T stage.
1999-what a disaster in terms of beauty-a bunch of petty faces but no-one competitive enough-only Amanda Jardine was worthy but the 2 miss photogenics from 1998 were way better.
2000-Heidi (one of the most beautiful MT&Ts ever-if she was top 10 I am pretty sure she would have easily made top 5)
2001-Alexia
2002-Rhian Vialva-everyone else should have been sent home-what the heck were the judges thinking with that top 3?
2003-Faye, Maggie, Leah
From 2004 to the present PE&A have gotten the winners more or less right in my opinion.

danielle jones in my view- even though im trini- did not deserve that spot. I just dont think she was strong, and there is no way even with the most amazing answer, would she have won.
Margot, Heidi, Faye, Wendy, Arlene were the best of the best. Rhian, at that time, was not ready, because she was very shy, was lacking that strong confidence and her speech was abit poor.
Cennette and June are just OK. Not standouts, im sure Peter will meet someone walking down the street who is stronger than both of them. There are so many models I see at Carnival time who can do well at MU/MW so hopefully he can scout a couple of them, dont worry.

...we disagree on Dani. To be quite honest, 2004 was one of the very few times that I had USA as my fav for the title-only 2008 comes to my mind in for USA ladies worthy of the MU title since 1995. Anyways, rumors are already circulating that PR will be the 2010 MU host. Peter Elias and Associates are going to have to "come good" this time with a tall, stunning delegate who can give the judges what they want in the interview-really, from the last few years I don't think intelligence is important as it used to be in the 1990s.

I agree with Trini77, I think Dani deserved her spot and could of done better if she had a better answer to her question. I also liked USA that year and had her as one of my favorites to win.

There was a rumor that croatia was going to host the pageant. I am very excitted to see who T&T is going to send.

I think June was good at MT&T needs to lose some weight but with some coaching she'll be alright. And Gabby is spectaculer gives me hope that i could actually rep T&T....cuz i'm 5'6.5" Ha. I wish her all the best and she'll surely bring home the crown and title. As for PEA they should really have the local leg earlier than the usaual it will give them much needed time to prepare the delegates. I'm rather excited to see who will be choosen next year.Maybe i'll actually get to see a delegate in person as i'm planning to screen. Anyway all the best to Gabbi and Anya did a fanstastic job.

...this is one of my personal quirks when looking at the MT&T delegates- I always look at how toned her arms are. June's arms look flabby. She need to literally lose at least 20 lbs if she plans to re-enter MT&TU-not a pound less.

...in the Auntie Kim era, she would have been better than at least half of the MT&TU/W reps in terms of beauty. However, in this PE&A area she is really below the level of who PE&A usually have to train for MU/MW.

On another note, as I said in a previous post, MPU09 is 6 feet tall (saw somewhere where they had her height as 5'11" though-but either way)-we need a tall MT&T if we want to place in top 9 in the prelims and hope to crack the top 5. Gabby better win MW08 so that there is not issue about whether she should be sent to MU09. Really, all the most successful outfits crown their winners about 6 months or more before the int'al event-and that includes USA-because they elect state reps who are prepared before hand to compete at the national level which in my opinion is almost like a dry run for MU. Come on Pete, when are the screenings?

I see potential with her. But, I did not like the way she spoke. Maybe it is because she is still young. I do think that she needs a boob job and a little spunk to her personality. yes, they will need 6 months to a year to properly train her depending on how fast she learns.

O.K. Everyone has their own opinions and this is mine so don't bite my head off if you totally disagree with me.
One of these will win:
1. Trinidad and Tobago
2. Ukraine
3. Dominican Republic
4. Russia
5. Ecuador
6. Spain

Semifinalists:
7. Mexico
8. Bahamas
9. Slovakia
10. Venezuela (no way could she win)
11. Namibia
12. SA (because she is the host; did not like her from MU and still don't)

Possibilities for the top 15 of the finals: India (really lacks spark to me but she has enough to possible sneak in if the gown in on-point given that MIs tend to interview well); PR and Jamaica (both totally don't deserve to be in the semis but they are Mrs. Morley's and Wilnela's perennial favorites; Expect to see Jamaica in BB top 20 and they might place PR in top model finals just to create the impression she has a competitive look); Peru (I actually like her look alot and would not mind seeing her in the top 15); Belize (want her to place but I am totally not confident that she will be prepared well to compete so I will be surprised if she places; however, beautywise she is defintely top 15 material), Martinique (will be interesting to see if she make it)

Special Mentions: Turkey and Norway

O.K. So there are about 110 delegates and I mentioned 20 so far. I totally expect to see 2 more strong competitors emerge during the actual competition (as usually happens every year). All the best to our wonderful Gabby.

Just of note, I am probably going to disappear from the forum about the 3rd week of November as I will be moving. Don't know yet if I am moving back to Trinidad though but if I do then I will be off the forum probably for an extensive period of time as I will be looking for work.

...the only reason I am not too confident about her placing in the finals is because they don't have a very good track record of delivering given that I thought they have had at least a couple of very beautiful ladies at both MU and MW in the past few years that did not place. Beautywise she is top 15 material though.

The new MPRU09 is 6 feet tall and a stunner-in my opinion she is a good fit for what MUorg would like. Personally, I hate her plastic nose and although she does have facial features that are reminiscent of Renata Stone (sorry about the spelling- you know the fromer MDRU) and last year's Crystal Stewart I still don't think she has the most beautiful face nor the strongest SS. However, she has about 7 months to prepare and so expect her SS body to be on-point for MU09 because the PR camp has not problem with removing ribs if they have to (although I don't think they would need to). PLEASE PE&A, DON'T CROWN ANYONE UNDER 5'9". I am still waiting to see another 6 ft stunner from T&T grace a MU stage.

Miss PRU09

Just a note-this lady is 6 feet tall (6'4" in heels) and even they knew not to make her wear a bolt of fabric like the MT&T committee did for Anya. Please design gowns that work for the lady first and foremost. The hottest trend is secondary.

...do you realize that alot of the delegates have the same smile onstage. PR is almost like a clone factory with MU2005 1st RU as their prototype. Anyways, alot of people are saying that she is MU2009 already and give that PR plans to bid for the 2010 hosting rights, everything seems to be in her favor. The MU judging panel is always skewed if you just look at the composition and that composite score is adding no credibility to the transparency for selection-Remember how different the SS scores were-a range from about 7.04 to 9.6(or above that). All you need is one vested interest in the judging panel and all the competition gets eliminated quietly. Peter Elias and Associates really have to come good if they want to win and they better send a top notch delegate this year before the pageant returns to a Latin American host, because then we might have no chance of making top 5.

Again I raise the question, why the he%l is there not at least one screening this year?

I see what you are saying. They seem to send girls who look alot alike. I dont know if she can win MU09 but she seems very competitive. as you have said PE&A needs ti send a stunner if they plan on placing in the top 9 preliminaries or winning. I would of liked to see the screening or atleast one held already this year. But, can we assume that maybe PE&A have already scouted some girls or someone?. Either way, T&T needs to send a super strong delegate who can win!

Gabby is consistently moving up in the odds-she started at 50 to 1 odds initially. I am not a betting person but to be quite honest, this is the first time I am extremely tempted to place a bet (even if it is 20 British pounds) on a win by T&T-I am that confident about Gabby's chances.

O.K. Maybe this is just me alone, but the thought that has crossed my mind more than once that Jamaicans prefer light skinned beauties or at least view light skin as more beautiful than dark skin but I was totally shocked to see that some Jamaicans do take this view to the extreme. I thought the vid was a little gross.

Gabrielle raises $600,000 for paediatric specialty ward

Gabrielle Walcott was born in Trinidad and Tobago on June 26th, 1984 (age 24). Hailing from Petit Valley, she is the eldest of three siblings, who are Heidi, Joshua and Sophie Walcott.

The 1.70 m beauty also pursued acting and theater arts at HB Studios in New York, USA.

An experienced Equestrian Show Jumper, Gabrielle also took up hobbies such as, dance, yoga, pilates, photography, hockey, art, and has always had a passion for acting and theater.

She is a long-time member and support of the Trinidad and Tobago Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, (the TTSPCA), and claims to have rescued 10 stray dogs and cats.

Gabrielle is preparing hard to achieve the second victory if Trinidad and Tobago at the 2008 Miss World contest. The country won the title in 1986, with Giselle LaRonde.

Describe yourself in one or two sentences:

I'm an island girl, warm, friendly and loving. I love to laugh, dance and meet new people.

Which three songs must be in your iPod?

-Andrea Bocelli's, "Because We Believe"

-Bob Marley's "Don't worry about

a thing"

-Bob Sinclar's "World Hold On"

Tell us about your "Beauty with

a Purpose" Project.

This has been a life changing experience for me. I've raised TT$600 000 (Trinidad and Tobago dollars/ US$100,000) for the first ever Paediatric Specialty Ward in the English Speaking Caribbean.

Because of Miss World's Beauty with a Purpose project, I searched for a very meaningful project and discovered a brand new non-profit organisation in my neighborhood called the Just Because Foundation.

I met the founders, two wonderful and inspiring parents who recently lost their son to a rare form of cancer. The JB Foundation in a very short space of time has done tremendous work to assist families with an ill one.

In my interactions, I learned that there were no dedicated wards for children with cancer in my country, and that presently, all children pediatric patients lived together in crowded rooms. Further more, the families and siblings of these young brave cancer patients were not able to visit regularly due to restrictions.

Working closely with them I was able to learn of an abandoned ward at one of our largest and most important hospitals and then convince the authorities who did not have budgets for such a specialised ward that I would raise the needed funds once permission was granted (this is a very abbreviated version of what transpired, in Trinidad we say 'it's all part of the course'..

Basic renovations have begun to the ward and we are awaiting final designs to implement and complete the project. I have never felt such a sense of purpose, and this has afforded me the 'true' understanding of Beauty with a Purpose.

I feel honoured to be a small part of an organisation and process whose objective is such.

What has been your most

memorable rainy day?

I can't help but think about this one particular rainy day when my family went hiking to a spectacular waterfall in our sister island of Tobago. On the way up, my Dad lost a part of his camera (photography is his favorite hobby) and was so disappointed.

After a wonderful day, on our hike back, he asked everyone to look out for the part (about the size of an M&M). This was literally looking for a needle in a haystack.

Being a Daddy's girl and wanting to please him as he was a little down, I prayed to St Anthony for help. I will never forget the look on my Dad's face when I came running with the camera part in my hand! He was so proud of me and much to my delight still tells that story to this day.

If you were invited to participate in the next NY Fashion Week, which fashion designer you would like to dress you?

Roberto Cavalli. His style is feminine, sexy and so luxurious!

Tell us about the nightlife in

your hometown.

In Trinidad we 'lime' it's a very popular word here used for getting together and hanging out with friends. We are a fun-loving people and so we like to lime anytime, anywhere.

There are lots of lounges, nightclubs, even street parties. I personally love night time beach outings or being 'down the islands' (there are these gorgeous little islands off of Trinidad which we refer to as 'down the islands')

I love being near the water and sand, being under the stars with a crackling bon fire, liming with close friends and family.

What has been your weirdest dream? Describe it.

I don't dream much, but recently had my wisdom teeth removed. I was really anxious because I've never had any surgery before, and this was to be performed while under anaesthetics.

The night before the surgery I dreamt that the surgery was going on, that the anaesthetics were being administered, that I got up out of my body and looked on at myself lying there and held my arm in an act of assurance and said "okay then, I'll be back, see you soon" and off I went.

Then, I heard people looking for me and yelling "She has to come back, where is she? "so I went back to the dentist's office and saw my family standing over me crying and said "wow, I better get back quickly"! I lay back down into my body and then I woke up and all was good. Very Weird!

Thankfully the surgery went well, though I looked like a chipmunk for about a week.

Where will the Miss World judges score you highest: interview, swimsuit or gown presentation?

I hope to score well in all categories. A little bias of course, but my Mom believes that the judges will score me highest in the interview, once of course my warmth shines.

What message you would like to send to the other Miss World contestants?

I can't wait to meet you all...to learn of our similarities and differences. I wish for us to be an amazing bunch of women, representing our countries to the best of our abilities, following our dreams! See you soon in South Africa!

Special thanks to Peter Elias.

Photography by Gerald Hart.

She really looked stunning in SS. I know she has an unusual voice but she seems to be one of the more mature ones of the Synergy season 3 batch. If she got a boob job and really toned up I would say she has the makings of a MU body! Again, why are we always crowing MT&TU so late (3 months before the int'al event)?

...June was also one of the models for the Synergy final (strangely Makeda was no-where to be seen). With a boob job, about 15 lbs lighter and ALOT of toning especially of her thighs and abdomen she would be in top 15 contention. I especially love her height; if PE&A did not get the point at MU then Synergy, with all due respect, should have finally knocked it into their head that the taller ladies carry an evening gown way better than any short delegate, especially when you want to use alot of material and expect alot of fluidity when moving. She looked dam# hot in EG.

she does have a maggie stance. Good eyes Trini77. yes, she needs to lose some weight and maybe get breast implants. She sounds like she is very mature and knowledgeable. She needs a lot of preparation though. So far she is just ok.

...she is just o.k. right now but potential-wise she is way better than June. She would need at least 9 months to prepare. I don't understand why we can't crown our MU rep. at least in November or early December so at least she has about 6 months to prepare. I hope this is just a sign that PE&A have made at least one strong invite who has confirmed beforehand that she plans to screen. Both Anya and Gabby were well-traveled and well-studied so they could out-talk about 80% of the delegates at MU/MW if they were sent without training but at the end of the day, both of them are not perfect and they still needed at least 3 months of interview coaching at least to bring them to top competitive form. Not every "Wendy" or "Gabrielle" that turns up to screen is going to have a background that would have prepared her with enough life experiences and formal education as some of our more fortunate reps. We need to screen at least from the year before the international event.

Georgeous Pearl wins-she will do great on the runway and in high fashion shoots. I am very happy with her win.

NOW BACKT TO THE BUSINESS AT HAND-SYNERGY IS OVER-WHEN ARE THE MT&T SCREENINGS-I HOPE IT IS IN NOVEMBER AND THIS LADY SHOULD GET A PERSONAL INVITE.

She has a nice compact frame. I know she looks tiny and fit in this pic but on video her thighs look a bit flabby (no not thunder thighs). She could do well at the international pageant level but she needs to tone up her thighs and make her abs pop like Kenisha's at MU06. I could see her easily cracking the top 10. She has great potential.

I know she is going to be an excellent high-fashion model. As for the male winner, at the end of the day-most people don't really care but I totally did not see that one coming. I thought there was only one obvious choice for the male winner and maybe one other guy who could pull a surprise. Anyways, all the best to both winners but Pearl is the one I see doing great on the international scene.

...I think she is more high fashion model than BQ material. We can certainly appreciate her undeniable beauty but MUorg only wants commercial looking ladies and MW- well after the nonsense they did to Kenisha with that assinine public vote, I don't expect much. I read somewhere that a few of the MW title holders are very good friends with Julia Morley and that is why their countries consistently perform well. I am sorry, but Peter Elias and Associates don't kiss as#-they send a lady who could win based on merit not on personal relationship-status.

sorry i was talking about the second girl in my post above. she has no personality what so ever, so i honestly think she wont even stand out even thoough she is pretty, Pearl was a great choice I think, the only person who kind of gave her some competition was Kerry-Ann, but she kind of lost steam in the end.
I dont know how well Pearl will do on the internationally but out of all the girls there, if anyone is gonna make it in fashion, its her.

Gabrielle Walcott... Living in the moment
BY TEISHAN DIXON

She’s a hazel-eyed beauty whose face has graced the glossy pages of several Caribbean magazines and local billboards.

But don’t expect a diva attitude from reigning Miss T&T World delegate, Gabrielle Walcott. Behind the glamour is a warm, friendly, intelligent young woman who is so much more than just another beauty queen.

The early years

“I was born and raised right here in Petit Valley,” said Walcott, of her childhood years. “I come from a large family and a very large extended family.”

According to her, her fondest memories are of attending many large family gatherings, playing cricket on the beach, and going crab hunting with her cousins.

“I have so many cousins, and a lot of them are around my age, so we all grew up together and shared the same experiences,” she said.

During her days at Providence Girls’, Walcott, who later went on to major in visual arts and minor in theatre arts at the University of the West Indies, recalls art being the subject she always showed the most interest in.

“My days at Providence seem so long ago,” she said laughing. “Sometimes I really long for those days again. When you’re in it, you ask yourself, ‘How can people say that these are the best days of your life?’ and then you’re out of it, you think, ‘how easy I had it back then’.

“My favourite subject was always art, and I remember and miss all my teachers. I made life-long friends at Providence. Those are memories I wouldn’t trade for the world.”

Robin Thicke’s video

Apart from her modelling and pageant escapades, Walcott has several other interests including dance, pilates, photography and hockey. Chief, however, is her love for theatre and acting.

She even expressed a desire to pursue an international acting career.

“I actually studied theatre arts at HB Studios in New York,” she said. “I would love to act full-time. I once did a play while I was in New York, and it was a great feeling being able to inhabit a character and become that character.”

When asked whether she thought winning the Miss T&T World title gave her an advantage in becoming popular in the acting industry, Walcott said that she saw ways in which the two opportunities could boost each other.

“The experience of being Miss Trinidad and Tobago is both similar and different to being an actress. Being Miss T&T World forced me to be the best Gabrielle Walcott I can be.

“And it’s me in the spotlight for the world to see, not me being someone else,” she said. “Miss World can sharpen my acting abilities in that it helps me to be more poised and more confident within myself, on and off the stage.”

In 2005, Walcott had the opportunity to showcase some of her acting talents internationally when she played the lead role in international R&B star, Robin Thicke’s video, Wanna Love U Girl.

“The whole thing was very exciting. I’ve done other videos, but that was my first lead role,” she said. “It was a bit challenging, seeing that I had to appear to love someone who in actual reality is a stranger to me, so my training in acting came in handy there.

The video took a week to be completed and was shot in the Dominican Republic. It wasn’t all glamour; it took a lot of work and a lot of discomfort. I have a lot of respect for everyone who played a part in it.”

Dark days

Walcott’s life has not been all rainbows and butterflies. She, too, like everyone else, has faced her share of perils, including losing her maternal aunt to breast cancer while still in her teens.

“When my aunt found out she had cancer, she left for Canada right away to get treatment,” said Walcott. “Because of that, I was unable to see her for many years. When she left, she looked healthy. But when she returned, she looked so frail. The cancer had really taken its toll.”

Reality about her aunt’s dire situation hit home for Walcott one sombre afternoon.

“My mom, sister and I were out driving, and I saw my mom break down in tears. Seeing her pain, seeing the family’s pain, left so much of an impact.”

This misfortune was what inspired Walcott to later become heavily involved with the Just Because Foundation, a non-profit organisation aimed at providing practical and emotional support for parents and siblings of young cancer patients.

“When the opportunity arose to join, I jumped at it, because I know from experience that when someone has cancer, it affects all their loved ones.”

Walcott’s misfortunes, however, did not end with the death of her aunt. Crime also hit home when she and her sister Heidi were robbed at gun-point at their home a little over a year ago.

“The first thing I did was start to pray,” she recalled. “My sister told me that I actually said the entire rosary out loud. I remember at one point during the robbery, they tried to separate us, but I grabbed Heidi and told them, “No, you are not going to separate us at any point and time. We’re staying together.”

Walcott also expressed grief over the current crime situation plaguing the country.

“I think it’s sad that a nation that has so much to offer has deteriorated to this state. I believe crime is a thing that starts in your neighbourhood and your community, and that is where the problem must be initially addressed.

“I do hope that as a nation, we can get back to the point where we feel safe in our homes and our communities.”

Pageant dreams

Walcott admitted that entering and winning a beauty pageant was one of her life-long dreams.

“I’m not going to kid around and say that I never wanted to be a beauty queen. It was always a dream of mine,” she said. “I remember meeting Wendy Fitzwilliam at Crews Inn once, and I was totally in awe of her, and I had a feeling about her that she would win, and I told my dad about it.

“The night she won the Miss Universe title, I was watching at home with my family, and when I saw her win, I knew that was something I wanted to do. I wanted to be Miss T&T.”

Asked whether she felt pressure in taking the baton from last year’s Miss T&T-World Valene Maharaj, Walcott admitted to feeling some pressure, but said she viewed Maharaj as an inspiration.

“Are you kidding? Of course I feel pressure,” she said, laughing. “It’s funny you should ask me that, because I am now in possession of the same pair of heels she wore on the night of the pageant, and I’m using them to practice. I feel like I have Cinderella’s slippers, and I have to fill those shoes in a literal and figurative sense.

“I’ve been told by several persons who worked with her during her preparation for the pageant that she is such a sweet person. They never had one bad thing to say about her, and that in itself is a goal to reach.”

Walcott described being Miss T&T World as a challenging but enjoyable learning experience.

“It’s been very telling. You really have no idea what it takes until you’re in it,” she said. “As a pageant representative, you don’t just learn how to walk the right way and to do your hair and make-up. You’re taught how to be the best you can be, and how to really connect with people and touch their lives.

“Peter Elias is always telling me: ‘Live this moment, and let it enrich your life,’ and that is the greatest lesson I’ve learnt thus far.”

Walcott leaves to compete at the Miss World pageant on November 14.

Not even Wendy could give a better interview. Adrian is a fantastic trainer. Gabby sounds so sweet and charming and she sounds so gracious when speaking of Valene without making it seem like a whole topic by itself. This young lady could be Miss World 2008-T&T would go crazy on Dec. 13th if she wins. We are so desperately in needs of some positive news and inspiration in our twin island republic.

I know we were all disappointed that Mrs. Morley did not select Valene's "Beauty with a purpose" project as one of her top 5 picks. I am going to go out on a limb here and say for the first time, decisively, we are in the running for a top 5 spot in the "Beauty with a purpose" fast track.

MW07 has come and gone and so I guess I can now say what I was thinking even before MJ was selected for as top 5 for that fast track event-any vote for Yendi's beauty with a purpose project was just a vote for the impact of the hurricane that sadly, devastated Jamaica. Yendi did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary-she did not have to think for one second what her fast track could be, she had a population willing to donate because of the devastation of the hurricane and let's be honest-a fashion show-are we for real? Any beauty queen or model could do that without even thinking. Please don't take this as bashing-it is the honest truth about what I thought could happen for the fast track last year and it panned out as predicted. I was just relieved they chose winner projects in which more innovation and individual effort had to be made.

...to see Gabby compete for the MW title. I know I have my reservations ever since the announcement about the finalists for the Mag 7 but she is really winning me over. I have a really good feeling about her. I hope she wins. Oh gorm, it would be great to have another MW from T&T. I even feel better about her chances than that of Valene last year-and we all know I don't like her body frame-but I can't explain it. I hope she nails her interviews at the competition-I am already seeing her with a crow but I hope it is "THE CROWN" and not one of the 2 runner-ups' crown.

This is what I see happening...Gabby could possibly miss the top 20 of BB, place in top 5 of beauty with a purpose and then on Dec 13th she wins Miss World 2008. This could change but I could see the Miss World crown on Gabby's head already. I could taste victory. Oh gorm. If you had told me 4 months ago I would be saying this about Gabby- I would have said you were crazy but she has improved greatly and I keep thinking Peter Elias is groom a winner come Dec 13th 2008.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS CONFIDENT ABOUT A MT&T REP. Let's hope it pans out.

Gabrielle looks very beautiful. She has a good chance of doing great at MW. I really hope she wins MW. It will be nice if she can win a fast track event . But, I honestly dont think she will need it fater seeing her lately. As you said Trini77, she does have chance at the beauty with a purpose win. I am excited to see her at MW

Anyways, anyone have the scoop on when screening for MT&T09 will be held and if PE&A gave out any special invites already. Oh gorm Pete, Venezuela already crown their ladies for 2009 and PR will crown its MU09 rep. in a couple of weeks-these countries have bigger populations to canvass for delegates. Hey guys, hope all is well. Like smurfgirl, Faye was one of my favourite miss TnT's, she did put us back on the international stage since Wendy's win!!! She was superb at MU, you may recall that she was a huge favourite with the local press and fellow delegates. Amelia was another favourite. Faye's gown was not great but she still managed to get to the swimsuit round. She admitted to have walked slow during SS b/c she saw the girl infront of her stumble a bit. Maybe her slow ss walk caused her non advancement together with the gown.
There is a rumour though... that Peter flew to Panama days before the prelim to convince Faye to wear his gown, she turned him down b/c of contractual agreement with ccn and wore Heather Jones' creation, after this Peter went to Amelia and offered her the gown to wear for the final night... Rumour or not Peter's gown was great and Faye could have gone further with it....
I wish Faye all the best with her music career...

Personally, I think Faye was easily top 5 (possibly 3rd) in the Heather Jones gown but she totally deserved her 10 position in SS-at least that is where I had her ranked when I looked at the SS competition.

I thought she could of placed higher if she had more presence during the SS segment. She seemed a bit to be holding back. But, as PB said it could be because she got a bit nervous when she saw the girl in front of her stumble a bit. But, she did do her best and did put T&T back on the map after Wendy. Truly a great rep. I hope we see yet another stunner at MT&T09

I dont remember there being a score shown that year. Was it confirmed she placed 10th?. I dont think she placed that high in EG as you said Trini77. I believe that the bad gown and a not so good SS round combined. All contributed to her not advancing further. But, she was so beautiful. As I said, great rep

I saw a pic of Peter`s gown and it was stunning! It was a gold backless gown. I mean shelooked amazing in it. she would have been top 3 with that gown, because her face is stunning and we know she can speak well. But whats done is done i guess. Heathers gown was not bad, but just NOT for MU.
and as for her SS walk it was slow but i thought it made her look even more sexy.

...the results were published the next day on the MU website. At the end of it all, she was not top 5 in SS and that is what kept her from advancing-not the Heather Jones gown. Peter had done a fantastic gown for her but after seeing Heather's gown onstage I was mesmerized. Faye had even commented that a couple of the judges told her after the finals that she was their favorite of the night. The gown was certainly not the typical pageant attire but it did it's job-Faye made top 10. She was certainly the most exotic of the top 15 and top 3 in sex appeal.

I know I was way in the minority in that I thought Miss Columbia Universe 2008's gown was not all of that although I thought the top portion was a bit interesting. I was basically wasting some time on TV and just basically realized that they got the design from a Makeza gown (hope I spelt it right) from 2004 I believe. It is really interesting to note that all the "fantastic" gowns worn by latins in the past years are always taken from big designers.

Miss Mexico Universe 2009, she looks beautiful. Both venezuela and Mexico has chosen two beautfil women already. I cant wait to see who will be MT&T09. I will really like to see Makeda screen again. But, I am sure PE&A has already scouted some girls with great potential. I think PEA& should try and hold MT&T right after MW. This will give the girl ample time to prepare. look how early both Venezuela and Mexico have crowned their winners. I dont see why T&T cant have its local pageant even before the other girls go to represent the country.

...but I hate the whole look-too pageant patty but I am pretty confident the Miss Mexico organizers will have her in top competitive form when MU09 kicks off in Croatia.

I am hoping Gabby wins MW but I have to wonder why PE&A are waiting to announce prelim screenings for MT&TU/W08. We have to have a delegate ready by the beginning of May for MU09. I hope they are training Makeda as religiously as Gabby because if we have to have a late crowing (Feb 09) then we need someone who has some training already. I have a very good feeling about Gabby at MW08-if Gabby does not win MW08 however, I do have to say that PE&A probably already spent over $30,000 in clothes for Gabby to go to the Ukraine and that ...well, it would be most judicious to send her directly to Croatia for MU09 if Peter Elias believes she has what it takes to place at the pageant. I personally would prefer to see Makeda or someone with a more curvier, compact frame as MT&TU09. Anyways, just thinking out loud.

If that is the situation she will not have to go to MU09. I to think she has a great chance of doing really well at MW. As you said she has what it takes to win and hopefully she does win. I am so excited to see who PE&A is going to send. I agree with you, if they have to hold the MT&T pageant in Feb 09, they need to chose ans send someone who has been in training or has some experience because it just seem to be to short a space of time from Feb to May. I will like to see makeda if she has improved in her communication skills and toned her body a little more. With the proper styling she looks great. But, we may see some other beauty this year. Cant wait

The ones to beat for the MW title-Ukraine, Russia and Ecuador.
Even though SA is the host-I will be shocked if any African delegate wins because they are totally not on par beauty-wise with the other top delegates from around the world. Only Namibia comes close but she is not all of that.

Regionally-DR is the one to beat and Bahamas really wants a regional win. I am totally confident that Gabby can take the regional title but she must not take it for granted that she is better for even one second. These 3 should hopefully make it to the top 15 of MW08. Both PR and Jamaica are totally 100% clapper material but don't be surprised if PR makes the semis. After seeing MJ on youtube at her crowning I am totally convinced that she is not semifinalist material at all but then again Mrs. Morley does have her favs. As I have said before-if she was wearing a MT&T sash I would tell PE&A to not even waist their time going to the international event.

Other strong delegates-Mexico and Spain. Philippines is also strong-forget about her poor interview she would have had about 9 months of interview prep. by the time she gets to SA.

I expect Venezuela and maybe India to make the top 15 but they are both yawns for me-noting very uniquely impressive about either. Slovakia also looks like semifinalist material.

Ukraine, Russia, Equador and T&T seems to be the top four. I also think SA has a chance of doing well. DR, and Bahamas are very good as well and hopefully all three make it to the top 15. I think all have what is necessary to make the cut. I like Spain and Mexico as well, I feel India will make the cut. I am not sure about Venezuela. It will be great if Gabby can win one of the fast track events.

Does anyone know what her talent is?

I love ukraine, ecuador, spain, panama and of course t & t. those are my top 5. with the right styling and gown, and of course if she can bring the right attitude and confidence that crown is gabrielle`s. Im just praying they get her gown right.
I see SA and Venezuela in the top 15 but as u said yawnnnnnnn, they dont have `it`

Panama and Spain and two other good choices and they should do well depending upon that they do look as good as their pictures. I am also hoping that they get Gabby's gown right. I dont think she will have a problem with the right attitude and confidence. Because she seems to have that and more. She surely knows how to be noticed and in a good way. the delegates I think we might be surprised dont meet their pre-arrival hype maybe Ukraine and Equador. I like them both but I have a feeling they may not be as stunning as their pictures. hopefully they do though.

My top 5 for the crown in any order (but you know who I rooting for): T&T, Ukraine, Spain, Ecuador and Russia.
After this: DR is securely 6th
Others: Bahamas, Namibia, SA will place but I don't like her, Venezuela is o.k. enough, India is boring but could slip in, Slovakia and of course Mexico. Peru is also growing on me. However my top 6 are the clear front-runners in my opinion.
It will be interesting to see if finally both PR and Jamaica miss the semis-I totally expect them to place in the fast track events since they usually only have a few judges and two of them we already know about.

I don't even want to hear about MT&TU09 being under 5'9"-we have ladies with potential on the local scene who have the right height. From the looks of things Makeda is at least 5'9" herself. Anyways, for the time being since we don't have much to talk about I just thought I would post some pics of some local models.

From Gabby's wikipedia page:

Gabrielle currently works closely with the Just Because Foundation, a non-profit community-based organisation founded by Chevaughn Joseph and Noel Joseph in honour of their son Jabez "JB" Joseph, who died from a rare form of cancer. The JBF provides practical and emotional support for parents and siblings of children with cancer.
Recently she has worked with Miss Trinidad & Tobago Universe Anya Ayoung Chee with the TallMan Foundation,Anya placed 17th overall in the Miss Universe 2008 Pagent. The Foundation was established for the empowerment of young people in underprivileged areas.
In 2008 the Youth of the United Nations Group of Trinidad & Tobago, (YOUNG-TT) asked Gabrielle and Anya, to be spokeswomen and champions for the fledgling group. Both young women emphatically accepted the challenge during their reign. YOUNG-TT is a youth NGO/CBO hosting some 300-plus members ranging in age from 16-24 with the aim of advocating the United Nations and the Millennium Development Goals ,(MDGS) through their demographic and networks. Gabby has been an active supporter of the organisation and was the facilitator of their 2008 MDGs & Me workshop, which brought together various stakeholders across the country to a discourse on the state of the MDGs in Trinidad and Tobago with a particular focus on youth.

that Anya placed 17th overall?. Does that mean she could of originally place in the top 15 but because of the MU0 chosing girls to be in the top 15 she was not included in the final top 15 and was psued to 17th?.

I also cant wait to see who will be T&T's representitive next year. I read Croatia will host MU 2009.

...so the delegates have to arrive in May. Why don't PE&A hold MT&TU/W09 this year before the end of November. Venezuela crowns its rep to MW more than a year in advance and their MU delegate usually has 9 months to prepare. I really think at the very least a screening should be scheduled for this year so we have an idea of what the playing field is going to be like for MT&T09 even if the final is held next year.

Makeda is the only call back I want to see from last year's pageant. I hope to see Valene compete for MT&TU2011.

I think that they should hold the MT&T pageant this year. I dont understand why they want to wait until each representitive go to their respective contest to chose another rep. Lets take for example Venezuela. They have been chosing their reps even before the previous one go to her internatinal pageant for years and they have been doing exceptionally well. The delegates have to be at MU09 next year by May, thats not that far away. Especially considering the month that they held MT&T this year.

I think PE&A should do their best to try and pull of the screening at least by november, Select the girls they want and start grooming them for the finals. I dont totally like this one week screening and crowning thing(not that it cant work). I think there are alot of girls who may want to join the pageant but were unaware that it was going to take place because of such a short space of time and not being notified. I dont know if finances is still the problem. But, I thought they will be able to do much more now seeing that they have the support of the ministry.

In my opinion the short selection and crowing process should be adhered to religiously unless we are welcoming home a MU or MW winner. It saves money and we don't waste alot of energy grooming ladies who will not go to any international event. However, I totally agree that we need at least 2 days of screenings that are at least one week apart. Additionally, the announcement of screenings should be made a month in advance so people are aware.

That Vietnam will hosy MW 2010. I am not sure about the age limit being raised to 26. But, if it is I think its way overdue. It should of been raised a long time ago. I have always thought that 24 was just way to young to make a cut of point.

...I think both MU and MW age limits should be raised to 29 years. Alot of women now want to pursue tertiary education and so would not really want to take a year off before their academic pursuits are complete. This is the 21st century? Not every woman thinks getting married before 25 is the main priority-lol! The international pageant rules should reflect the current culture.

Could it be that the MVO knew that the rules were going to be changed?.

I also agree with you that the age limit should be raised to 29. The world culture has changed so much and as you said pageantry should reflect that as well. And I agree not every woman wants to or gets married as soon as they past 25. I never really understood that rule.

Kids with Cancer
By CAROL MATROO Monday, September 29 2008

BRAVE FACES: Miss TT/World Gabrielle Walcott (back row left) and NCRHA CEO Cynthia Carrington-Murray (back row third from left) with some brave young cancer patients at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex yesterday.

THEIR bodies are small and frail as they battle against a silent killer, but hope still shines in their eyes, their lips are always ready to smile, even as they struggle to overcome cancer.

Now, a new paediatrics specialist ward, to be opened on October 31 at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, will hopefully bring some relief to children battling the disease, and provide treatment needed to destroy or control the illness.

The new ward is an initiative of the North Central Regional Health Authority and Trinidad and Tobago’s representative for the Miss World competition, Gabrielle Walcott, has adopted the ward for which she will now be a patron.

This announcement was made while the NCRHA treated several children suffering with cancer at the rooftop restaurant at the complex, yesterday. The children feasted on KFC and were presented with party bags, balloon poodles and teddy bears.

Eleven-year-old Kimberly Singh has to be supported because her cancer, medulablastoma, has thrown off her balance. The child’s mother, Rebecca, said Kimberly was diagnosed with cancer last year after complaining of headaches. “When we carried her to the doctor, he started treating her for migraine, but she continued getting the headaches and she was vomiting, so they decided to do an MRI. That is when they saw the tumour at the base of her brain,” she said.

She said Kimberly was unable to go to school because of her condition. “Some days she is better than other days, but, God is in charge and we are beginning to see some progress. We are hoping for the best,” she said.

Chief executive officer of the NCRHA, Cynthia Carrington-Murray, said dealing with cancer was very traumatic for the youngsters.

“It is not easy for them to deal with the pain, or for them to lose their hair. It is a painful thing to see. Cancer awareness is now helping to bring cancer to the forefront, making people more aware,” she said.

Leukaemia, brain tumours and lymphoma are the three major cancers that lead to deaths among children between zero and 14 years. Walcott said her decision to take a special interest in the new cancer ward stemmed from having to watch her mother suffer through her aunt’s death.

She said private groups and organisations were coming on board to lend their support in treating with cancer, and praised her sponsor, Digicel, for donating $200,000 to get the ward started.

I know that I have made it clear that I don't like Gabby's bodytype (and that has not changed) but I will now make a definitive statement based on the latest photo release-WE ARE IN THE RUNNING FOR THE MW08 TITLE! I am not going to say that we will win but she is definitely on par with Ukraine (the outright fav for the crown) as well as the other most talked about beauties.

The weight loss has done wonders for her look and her Tobagos look fantastic. I am relieved to know that Bobby is the gown designer.

We have another great chance for the MW crown. PE&A hit MW gold with Kenisha, Valene and now Gabrielle. I remember seeing Gabby in a similar white and black outfit where she was heavier (it could have been the same outfit in a bigger size) and although her face was beautiful (as always) her body looked like a total disappoint. In these new pics however-that 10-15 lbs that she lost plus all the gym work to tone up has really paid off. Her body is on point! She is going to dazzle for the EG segment. Again, I have to say she looks like the total package and would make a beautiful Miss World. Hope she wins.
